Such a late start for me, I wanted to get a lot done today before driving to see family for supper
Only just got up to put out the washing, now I can't find the pegs
Still, looks like being another sunny day in Glasgow.0 -
What sort of bare root plants did you buy? I was surprised to see some places still selling them last week, as almost all of mine, in the ground now, have leaves. After a couple of tedious months planting, it's great to see the growth starting.
My plants seem to be very slow this year getting going - usually they go great guns in the mini green house, but they seem to be biding their time atm.
For bareroots I got a selection (or two) from leadthegoodlife.com - they had collections of 12 shrubs for £10 and I was unable to resist.:EasterBun
Includes spirea, potentilla, buckthorn, rosa, viburnum, honeysuckle, dogwood, mock orange, weigela, ribes, dutezia, snowberry, berberis, quince (apologies for the duff spelling). Nothing exotic. They are a good size with good root systems, I was frankly astonished - expected to get twigs for that price. Still I need to get a wiggle on getting those that came earlier into the week into the soil.
Old dog has perked up a bit since her injection yesterday which is a relief as it took her weeks to get over her last upset tummy. I need an energy boost too, thinking about trying D-Ribose again. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Oh just for some excitement this week there has been a heavy police presence in the village on and off (including helicopters which were circling ground zero again yesterday a few hundred yards from our house). Bomb squad too. Illegal firearms seized. Mr BD 'happened' to walk the dogs down the lane but unable to find anything out - but big photo and little actual info on the front page of the local paper. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Hope we don't get that wind, as I really do want to keep burning.
I've come inside again. Smoke and noise too much for me to take constantly today but plodding on with breaks.
Amazed that the 'easier 3/5ths ' of logs have been worked through now.
Its looking like something we could clear in a couple of weekends now..
We also have enough wood prepped for sept/oct 2015 I think.. Its all pretty wet this bath, from being outdoors, and the stuff we are burning on the bonfire is oozing stuff out of it. We'll not rish this inside this year I think.

Gorgeous weather again today and I am spending it cooking and cleaning for OHs family coming while he lounges about
So I am going to abandon it all and head out into the garden while the sun lasts. I am sure they can cope with a less than perfect house. If he is bothered he can do it!
It has been so lovely to have the great weather the last few days, the garden has really started to come together. It will be nice to have people round and for Rumlet and I to enjoy it over the summer without quietly cringing about the mess of itTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Rummer, hope you took some before and after pics then you can see how much you've achieved.

Right, that's me done gardening for today - got the pergola supports concreted in, so they'll be solid for tomorrow. Apart from the climbers for the pergola itself, I've been holding back on other planting while I finish off the woodworking so I don't trample new plants
Looks like I might miss my deadline off all hard landscaping finished for Easter - still it's not a competition!
All the cannas, dahlias and tender bending is sitting on the patio hardening off.
Off to visit family now but am aiming to stop at the Geilston Garden to see how the National Trust's gardeners are doing...0 -
Ok, I didn't know the rain was going to get THAT heavy,
Spurred on by the damp and on off nature we had just lit the next fire when the heavens opened with thunder and lightening. Drains and gutters can not cope, and the gutter broke above one of the hop troughs, and I think that will have washed away some of the marigold and nasturtium seeds, as the rain was pelting down like cannons.
Probably means that dodgily placed fire is safe though.0 -

Yes, it even reached here eventually, but not until we'd done all the outdoor work we planned, including planting the two evergreen oaks in their final positions and staking the cotoneaster grown from seed we picked up under one in the Royal Crescent about 6 years ago. It's different from our others.
I know you don't care for cotoneasters, but they make such good wildlife trees. We've planted/re-homed around 60 of them this winter, though many will remain hedge-sized.
If the weather hadn't broken, I'd have planted out a long row of comfrey along the field fence at the Dog End. I'm going to set up a comfrey barrel there to feed everything I've planted, and perhaps to make 'bad drains' smells too, if I ever feel the need. :rotfl:0
