Lir, you only live down the road from his creator. Perhaps she'd knock up a copy for you? :)

Well, I have DH for naked, smug, eye attracting in garden already!

Part of today's haul from Dobbies garden centre. The yellow candelabra primulas do amazingly well in my damp, clay soil.

The primroses I planted by the stream did well, despite the high water and wayward sheep. Similarly, our cowslips are doing fine in the light soil near the house.

As the sheep ate all the ivy, the mass of celandines on the stream banks show up particularly well at present. I will try to naturalise some candelabra-type primulas there, but unlike you, I've found no acceptably cheap source around here.

A trip to Marwood Gardens perhaps.....:)

    :j:j:j Oh I am so giddy :j:j:j

Hubby came home from work and we went to the garden centre to get some weedkiller and I was wandering about telling him about LIRs lion and that Dave had told me to get a certain type of weedkiller and it made me smile to think I have you all to chat to about gardening. IRL none of my friends or family have even a vague interest so it is nice to have people to [STRIKE]grill for info[/STRIKE] swap ideas with and to share the successes [STRIKE]and disasters[/STRIKE].

However the reason that I am really giddy is because I came home with a Hellebore - Winter Moonbeam and a Snakes Head Fritillary :D It is so good to have the garden really coming together this year. I have to thank Rhiwfield too for helping me to grasp the importance of little and often ;)

Over the weekend hubby has volunteered to come and get a lot of the work down in the garden so it is all too exciting :j

Ground frost with me, a reminder it's risky to put out tender plants for a few weeks yet here is Scotland.

Looks like being sun all day:j so plants will come out from the conservatory to start hardening off.

If the sun keeps out, might get the first tulip bud opening. I've got two maroon glazed pots filled with egg-yolk yellow tulips which should be eye-catching.

Other than that, will be getting on with planting the new beds and concreting in the posts for the pergola and staining the wood. I'll be using jet black wood-stain, should contrast against the green of the climbers and white flowers.

    :j:j Yay for a sunny day :j:j

I am heading out this morning for a long walk in a local park which has a gorgeous woodland. Then I am going to spend hours and hours in the garden which will be bliss :D:D:D

Clearing the shady border today and planting my new lovelies :D

When is our Alfie due back???

This weekend I am going to do a little, but not too much. I'm very tired, and there have been so many problems at work that I just feel drained. At least I only have another week there, and it's a four day one!

I have peas germinating, albeit slowly, and a couple of cuttings all in a windowsill propagator. This weekend I will be taking fuchsia cuttings - I wanted them to get some proper daylight before taking some bits off to root. And I might try a couple of tomato seeds. I've left it quite late because we have some time away next month and the younger adults won't remember to look after things if there are a lot of them.

Love the boglet pics and video CTC! Spend as much time watching them as you can, they're sure to lift your spirits. *hugs*

I think the idea of the lion is pretty cool, LIR. It would make me giggle too. As for gaudy decor, how about something colourful to pin round it like a brightly coloured shawl, or a knitted scarf? You could tailor its outfit to the seasons and it would really make poeple stop and stare :rotfl:

Missing all our absentees, I hope they're all safe and well. Hugs to everyone, enjoy the long weekend!

Looks like we have two more rain-free days here, which ought to be enough to finish weeding the ornamental garden. As it was a field not long ago, we still have some fierce opposition., sometimes growing in the middle of perennials. Nowt for it then, but to dig the lot up, sort out and re-plant. :(

Then we might get to the dahlias....;)

I've just finished going over the bit behind the garden which we're about to seed with grass. The trees there are already in, but despite doing it once or twice before, there were still far too many large stones. We've removed several tonnes from that bit and there's still the other side of the footpath to go.....

Down at the stream yesterday, I finished burning back/pulling out all the black plastic so it couldn't be seen, then I planted a couple of evergreen shrubs in that bit. I also put in a wayfaring tree by the waterfall and a wild privet especially for Mr Dog up at his end. :) (Actually, it was for the wildlife!)

Have flowers forming on many tomatoes now, but none open.

Aaargghh! You have just reminded me about the fritillaries....

I have a load of seed raised ones, languishing in a pot for about the 3rd year running. They are supposed to be in my grassed area among the trees, but as we haven't sown the grass seed yet....:o:o:o:o

Oh well, there's always next year!

Are they easy enough to grow from seed?
