    They sound beautiful.

I had thought of a staff rather than a stick ( partly because keeps me thinking up rather than down if that makes any sense, and partly because would work with lots if heights of shoes :o:o) but then I thought I'd just look like some crazy witch. :o:o

Not at all, lots of people choose that length :)

At this stage in the year, consider harvesting the shoots for stir fries? Might knock it bacl a bit?

If you want to kill it with glysophate you might want to use the tricks for dealing with Japanese Knotweed in gardens and SSIs?

Leave it til August and then cut back above one or two nodes. Inject (syringes are 30p) glysophate directly into the stem using a solution 5 times the recommended strength. It can be useful to add a little food dye so you can see what you have injected.

The weed killer is drawn down into the plant as it dies back for the winter. Growth next year is severely stunted and can be sprayed or painted. The odd strong new growth will erupt between the old stumps but can be cut back and treated in August.

Thanks Ras, but we don't live there any more :rotfl:. As a matter of fact, OH did spray it with various things (he was licensed to use agricultural / forestry stuff that garderners can't generally get). Only gave it a headache for a while though :rotfl:

Now that we cannot have pond where we were going to dig it yesterday I am looking for a focal point.

There are some brilliant but probably not terribly chic things on ebay. Sadly lack of chic doesn't make them very cheap.

A life sized lion would make me snigger and really confuse the kiwi ( who isn't very bright)

You could always have a ceramic duck like I just bought for the caravan deck! ;)

I do think it would be funny. If I could find a cheap enough 'stone' one I would consider it. The bright orange plastic one is a little.......too much, no? :D

Very cute, ducks are lucky in some cultures too.

I need something quite sizey but not too tall, to draw ones eye through the white garden, but not up at the end of it.

Garden ornaments are much harder than plants. More of a commitment.

I like the idea of a lion who could look semi serious sometimes, and at other times be adorned with silly decor.

Lir, you only live down the road from his creator. Perhaps she'd knock up a copy for you? :)

This is the third stem of flowers I've had from a hippeastrum I bought for £5, IIRC from Lidl. Flower per £ can't be beaten!

Part of today's haul from Dobbies garden centre. The yellow candelabra primulas do amazingly well in my damp, clay soil.
