Daydream thread... without the rose-tinted specs

Lucielle - hope the card fraudster is caught. It sounds as if someone got hold of their bank statements? Goodness knows.
Alfie - are you all settled in?
Got some lighter scaffolding delivered - the other stuff weighed a ton & npot easy moving it around inside. This stuff is aluminium so manageable. More insulation delieverd but still not roofers not the remainder of the roof sheeting.
OH is not well & it's all been a muck up, so things are very fraught & worrying indeed Plus means I have to do all the unloading & lifting & I'm jiggered.
Today the weather was lovely & dry for shifting the insulation & scaffolding - so that worked really well. The rain & sleet is back on now - will it ever cease? It's much colder though - really rather bitter.
More wild goats appearing - the wee kids, like wee teddies. They are amazing. You see them running up sheer cliffs days old - incredible. Incredible how helpless human babies are in comparison.
My burpday today, but didn't get a pressie, but OH says he'll get me some poultry at the rare breed sale on Saturaday, but not ducks!0 -
Happy belated burpday Choille! And to Dave for the big one a few weeks back too.
I haven't been about much because there isn't anything going on. Barely any let-up in the rainy weather so the back bedroom isn't drying out, and work is so majorly aggravating and distressing that I'm going to find something else and pack it in.
Outside we have hyacinths and tulips coming into flower and I don't know whether I should grow anything this year or not... I'm a bit down so it's not easy to plan stuff at the moment.

morning all,
We are devastated here.....we found one of the big girl's dead... on sunday evening we phoned the vet to find out what we needed to do etc..
it is strange how we were talking about the hunt just a day or two ago, and I have had no contact, or anything to do with them, in over 30 years... in fairness we phoned on Monday morning, and they were with us within the hour...not a dignified way of moving her ( she was VERY big ) so I had to go somewhere else, I could not watch... I thought it would cost an arm and a leg for them to take her away.. but I was surprised how cheap it was, considering they cant feed her to the hounds.... on the paperwork he wrote down 'category 2' does anyone know what that means??
I think whoever is lurking/reading etc, who are 'anti' the Hunt... they do other things than just hunt... they offer this type of service for the smallholder/farmer... so if 'anti' hunt people managed to totally stop/disperse the hunts, then people who have larger animals will even less choice of disposing ( sorry could think of a more gentler word for it) of the animal, and don't forget we cant bury large livestock on our land anymore. ( you can in certain circumstances)
EDIT.... please don't copy as I might want to remove this post later)Work to live= not live to work0 -
Oh CTC so sorry to hear that, it is heartbreaking to lose an animal...I should know, got one being picked up today and another looking like it will be PTS soon....sheep, my original girls, who seem to have succumbed to liver fluke, my regime of minimal intervention has bitten me in the @r$e, the very prolonged mild wet weather seems to be too much for them to cope with. Gutted.
I'm using a stock disposal firm, not to do with hunts afaik. Very reasonable cost, guess they just incinerate....they are always busy but can usually come within the day, unfortunately I've had to call them a lot lately it seems. they will also 'PTS' with a gun, bet it's cheaper than the vet and probably less stressful, being that much quicker.
Do you have any idea how it happened? Really important to get to the bottom of it, not trying to frighten you, but sudden deaths should ideally be investigated... I have used the vet labs in Carmarthen, hell of a trek and pretty upsetting as you have to go ASAP, but very helpful info to prevent other animals getting sick too...
Big hugs xxxx0 -
the vet mentioned Carmarthen, but we would have had to take her there, and then dispose of her afterwards... She was a VERY big girl... the vet did say it wasn't compulsory, but he did say that large pigs are prone to heart failure.....
She was fine on Saturday... we took the other big girl out and kept her in the trailer, until her sister was taken away... we watched her more or less constantly and stayed in there with her... to watch for any signs of anything... checked every part of her body or anything unusual, and nothing...
Did I see you Monday morning going into the garage?? I had come home to find out the number for the hunt.... I was standing on the corner with my panda hat on lol...
are you using Goddards??Work to live= not live to work0 -
Oh dear, no good news at all today!
:(:(
Sympathies to CTC and FK for your losses, and to Alex & choille for the general hassle you're going through. Hope Mr choille gets better soon.
Happy burpday too, choille. I think a trip to a Holiday Inn is in order. :bdaycake:
Frost here this morning. I haven't dared look at my tomato seedlings yet.....:eek:0 -
Oh sorry choille, forgot to say happy belated b'day! Hopefully when mr feels better you can have a treat day out, or even a night away and hot bath!
Thanks for the sympathies and support, it is part and parcel of keeping animals but it is still heart breaking...I am comfortable taking animals to slaughter, I know that's what they're here for from day one. But the long term keepers, it's so hard letting them go.
CTC I did initially think heart, esp if no other symptoms. Yes getting any animal to Carmarthen is a faff, have done it twice now...costs an arm and a leg, but they dealt with disposal after...I use Douglas brothers, they come from lampeter way
Yes it was me on the roundabout, and I thought it might be you but couldn't see well enough and was trying not to stare, Lovely panda hat!!!
Just when I thought I had all the bad news out the way it seems I may be losing my pedigree goat herd too... a hideous, hidden disease with no treatment, cure or vaccine has struck, need blood tests to confirm but three out of four have symptoms. Luckily I have two other goats who have been kept separate since arriving (they have horns, so couldn't mix with the non horned ones) so I'm hopeful they'll be ok. I've accepted it for now but when the actual day comes....:(
Anyway (picks self up and dusts off) On a much brighter note we have our stove coming today, looking forward to that. Also we're picking up a van today we bought at the weekend, long story but we started off looking at small cars, then estates, them mpv types, finally a van! It's not without it's issues but thanks to t'internet I am armed and ready to haggle, piccies to follow...
Chins up everyone, and hang on for the next bump on the roller coaster!0 -

Maggie and better have joined me up there and tomterm has come down here.
It's not the first time I've been here, LiR. In fact, I've probably posted in every daydream thread... just not very often.
You can tell it's spring... I did the first grass cut of the season today. Slightly kamikaze-style grass cutting, admittedly, with a lawn that was only notionally dry.
Ferretkeeper: That sucks. It's horrid when animals die, and when it threatens the entire flock it's even rougher. Is it possible the thing that killed your pig is the same thing that is killing your goats?“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Daydream thread likened to a sex shop?:eek:
Well, I suppose it is a bit like that. Nobody really knows exactly what it's like until they look inside!:cool::cool:
Then at least 80% say "Oh, that's not my thing!" :rotfl::rotfl:0
