I can't help with the smell of death, but if our morning here hints at what's heading your way, it will be 'brighter later.' This is the first morning for many months that the cat has asked to go out for reasons other than performing natural functions.0 -
I can't help with the smell of death either LIR.....we had bats in the void above our vaulted-ceilinged living room in our Tudor/Arts & Crafts house, but never had any issues with dead smells, but it was an extremely high ceiling
We did once have the weird experience of one flying through our snug here in the dead of night whilst we were sitting having a drinking sesh with DS
I'm sure your dog will be just fine - as you say, it's for the best - we had our SWD spayed in January and we were amazed that she treated the *collar of shame* as if it wasn't there and despite our best efforts she was soon leaping about as though she hadn't just had major surgeryWe do worry about them though, don't we?
Bright here too this morning - and I'm very pleased to report our missing replacement plumber has made it through the floods and is currently hard at work!Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Normally the smell of death is a cat gift, but the cats haven't brought anything home. I suppose we could have a mouse that's just died inder a floor or something. Anyway, its vile.....0

Our old cat (14 this year :A) rarely brings things home these days, but when he does he usually manages to deposit the offending article somewhere outside and one of the dogs invariably brings it in insteadLast time it was a dismembered rabbit paw - luckily I found it before they had a chance to *bury* it down the back of a sofa
Time to break out the Jo Malone (or in our case Woodwick) scented candles, LIR

Hope dog-dog is comfortable and that the smell has abated, lir.:)
Today was definitely spring-like. With DW on the mend, the depressing slow-motion pace improved a little and I got a few important jobs done. Top of those was plugging the hedge gaps the electricity men made while taking the line across the road. I decided to use sea buckthorn for that, as it's definitely the most prickly plant I know of - even worse than blackthorn.
I'm also starting to re-build my sand bed propagator, which weighs about 1/5 tonne when complete. It's the sand that's responsible, but having that much makes it very stable temperature-wise and it holds onto heat gained in the day. Doubt if I'll use it this spring, but next year I'll maybe think about building up stock again.0 -
Dog dog ok. Smell worse.0

Oh.....:(
Could you get one of the other dogs to hunt the smell down?
I s'pose not, otherwise you'd have tried that.0 -
Pulled out the big box of overwintered roots from the garage this evening. As it's been so mild, not too surprised everything looks OK.
The lilies all have strong shoots up to 5cm, about six large bulbs and maybe 10 smaller offsets which I've potted up.
No sign of life on the dahlias, so will just leave them in the box of sand for a few more weeks.
The two tuberous begonias look OK, no rot. I'll leave them be for a bit yet.
Definitely a feeling the gardening season has begun.0 -
I have bought a hatchet... a small hand axe. Not sure exactly what i will use it for but it seemed a good idea at the time.
Am also vaguely considering that I need to dig over the veg garden and get seeds going but soil very wet...“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”
