1.. there was a resteraunt/cafe there for donkeys years, i think a fire finished it off. various people wanted to "build" there but another resty got the PP. not sure where those costs came from , slight exageration me finks
2. its not actually that close to the shore. that part of the beach has a wide road and a wide stretch before the water [normally:o] the shore slopes away steeply too. so quite a bit lower than the road level.i often walk the dogs there in summer and it leads out to hurst castle . the route being very high shingle [plus man made] bank/path. the other side of which is marshes and i dont know if this was breeched ??
3. i am surprised they went ahead considering the warnings that were issued. [a lot of pubs etc along the shore closed]me finks greed !!
I remember Milford, but not in detail. Used to stay in a strange hotel there, run by a grumpy woman who carried a toy dog around... It's all been bulldozed now, thank goodness. :T
I'd walk the kids out to Hurst from there. It doesn't look too bad, but the shingle is very tiring, so they'd all be moaning by the time we arrived! We'd do our historical work, then I'd say that we had to walk back.....:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:In reality, I'd have a boat hired to take them back to Lymington.... I'm not that cruel!0 -
ive never had so many early nights !! warmer there
weather has stilled here.... and if the forecast is to be believed its calming here for 3 days... then possibly a bit of snow..:rotfl:
we did have hailstones today..:o0 -
Did a workshop today and made nearly £75after expenses, with only 3 participants, so not bad. A little more toward the debt monster and my daydream.
Thanks for the input re National Parks rules, will definitely have to make sure I do my homework.
Stay safe everyone, sounds like some of you are in the thick of it. We're not having it too terrible up here at the moment (makes a change!). A couple of trees down here and there but flooding not too bad, hopefully we had ours with the tidal surge at Christmas time...Official DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'

Devon has 5 National Parks /AONBs and I regard it as a huge bonus that we're not in any of them. Makes everything more relaxed, especially planning.
Tourists pass through here on the way to somewhere 'pretty!' :rotfl:
I'm looking out the window now at the terribly dull, unattractive landscape.....:D I see it's quite calm and frosty, with sunshine in prospect.....:j
Hen duty calls....it's getting earlier!0 -

Ditto to the "never had so many early nights" over recent weeks. Escaping from the combination of weather and house renovation (though having to ensure eyes are closed firmly whilst in bedroom, as my bed is surrounded by stuff from everywhere else in the house at present).
Errrm....I saw the Met. Office stuff in paper this morning re "That's that now folks. Normality can resume and we will have a Normal Winter for the rest of the winter". Holding my breath personally, having been told that high-falutin' accurate weather guy (forget name0 says we are In for a Buster 25-27 January. I DO hope he's wrong...
This winter is dragging the stuffing out of us all one way or another..
EDIT; Piers Corbyn that's the guy.0 -
SB has posted this over on the SHTF thread on the OS board..

they did quickly mention this week on the national news about the weather in the USA was going to come over here, in what degree no one knows....
BUT I am going to get ready just incase, it could be just the temp, it could be snow... it could be I look like a ninny and it doesn't happen, so I am making sure I got plenty of piggy food/bedding in, and plenty of coal/wood and making sure I have some spare milk in the freezer...
cold crisp morning here too, with a hard frost aroundWork to live= not live to work0 -
I saw that post and wondered if anyone can interpret this one way and another for us and what has been said about this Dutch guy's accuracy or otherwise.
I don't do Twitter..Wouldn't know how to..so cant check him out for myself.
I bought THE world's hugest fridge and freezer before this winter because of nothing more scientific than a Nasty Feeling about the incoming winter...think I shall be glad of it...can avoid having to go to the shops that frequently if need be. Pushing...pushing...pushing for enough work to be completed faster than fast on my house to make it more suitable (or indeed at all suitable...) to cwtch up in and tearing hair out that work takes longer than normal in this part of the country. Need to be able to get into my waterproofs I bought a couple of years ago for the first time, that I daren't wear (in case I stretch them) at the moment whilst I'm still comfort-eating (or glass or two of wining perhaps to be more accurate....). At the rate this house is going...it will be a couple of months yet before I can focus on losing weight...0 -
I can remember at the end of summer, people were saying it was going to be the worst winter ever, with snow etc.. They got part of it right lol... I think they assumed the temps would be lower, and all this rain would have been snow ( just imagine that!!! now that would have been a total shut down of the country for months....deaths, hunger, etc).
I Def think more and more people will be prepping more now..to cover a lot of situations...Work to live= not live to work0
