now knowing how your kitchen works my eyes were drawn to the word CAKE and was about to offer .... then i realised its not that cake
:rotfl::rotfl:

No edible cake here today. I made char Sui pork for Friday so we had lovely light rice noodle soup Friday, char Sui bao yesterday and then the last of it for lunch in a stirfry today.
. I was coming to cook but we decided we're too cold and tired to 'eat' properly so DH is rummaging and we'll probably end up having soup.before an early night.

Pete's lamb being dished up with all the trimmings, like parsnip, squash and yacon grown here and some other veg.
Wasn't too bad a day. Fixed the front door lock (I think....key to another door hidden just in case!;)) Socialised. Cut up logs (chain saw has mended itself) and doubled the depth of one big deep bed in the poly. Two more of those to go.....

I hid indoors today eating junk food
The weather was wild this morning but bright come afternoon so I should have made the most of it but hey it was nice to relax!
Thank you for your thoughts on waterproof leg wear and trainersI have given it some thought and may go and try some different ones on. I do however doubt that I will be able to carry the water resistant trousers off :rotfl: I may just need to cope with getting wet!
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
morning all,
you would think I would be able to sleep after the last few days, but nope... even though I am tired I cant sleep..maybe its the thought of work today...lol...
I must admit I am REALLY annoyed with the government, ( what news) They really should have stepped in earlier with the floods in somerset. I thought the army was now involved, but all I seem to see on the news is the fire brigade and the rescue sevice doing the work....I did hear ( don't know if its true) that it needs a month without rain to pump what water is in the fields at the moment....
I dread to think what the land is going to be like after the water has gone... will it be too contaminated with all the sewerage that has gone on there too???
Think its time for a cuppaWork to live= not live to work0 -
Two months for sewage contamination to neutralise according to the news t'other day.
IMO, despite the sympathetic noises, farming areas will be sacrificed to urban when it comes to funds for flood control.
Still, it's nice to know that the current problems we're having are down to polar vortices interacting with the Gulf Stream and nothing to do with climate change!:rotfl::mad:
Glad you did OK at Westpoint.0 -

There are some places it seems that its going to be an uphill battle to protect though.
Places barely above sea level, drained fo centuries and flooded repeated over centuries seem.....of Venician proportions...something sad butprobably inevitable to lose at some point to rising water.
I imagine where I am might not be so much better:rotfl:0 -
I can't recommend yacon in quantity. Like Jerusalem artichokes, they contain sugars which we can't digest.:(
So, great for calorie control, but one may end up feeling like a barrage balloon anyway and.....0 -
Some sunshine here today, and some yesterday, and it is pretty mild too, we are very lucky atm.
I just can't imagine what those poor people who have been flooded for 5 weeks are going through. I can't see that it will take anything less than years to dry out and check buildings for safety when the waters finally recede and that isn't without dealing with the machinations of insurance companies. And that is if they don't get flooded again in the meantime.
I wonder, does all this standing water also adversely affect the structure of the soil, presumably it kills all the worms and beneficial bacteria. Some soggy bits on our 'lawn' and it is all slimy and horrible - what must acres of that be like?
Heart in mouth this morning - brown envelope from the DWP through the door. Thought they might be reassessing my ESA (last time was a nightmare and I had to go to appeal). But no, just a letter telling me they are increasing my benefit. It just cancels the letter they sent me a few weeks ago telling me they are reducing my benefit also because of 'a change in circumstances'. I have given up trying to work out how on earth it is calculated and what changes of circumstances at the DWP trigger these letters. Answers on a postcard please. Perhaps mice come in at night and tap across the keyboards........
I see some rather serious family trouble looming on the horizon. I have decided to no longer tolerate the divisive behaviour of a family member which has been going on for many years. Although in some ways it is liberating, it will force the issue with regards to my siblings which for my sister especially is going to be difficult as she has always sat on the fence.
Can I ask some advice? In the bathroom are some cream floor tiles with a matt finish. Some are chipped, but I don't really want to replace them. What will be the best thing to cover up the chips? Some sort of paint perhaps? It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Another two birds to add to the flock. I finally got an Ixworth cockerel to go with my pullet (Ixworths are like the proverbial hens teeth, it would seem) and snuck in an Araucana pullet with tufts (a preferred standard). In for a penny, in for a pullet
It's lashing down here. Again. Yesterday was sometimes glorious and we went to Marloes beach which is amazingliy geological and looks like a moonscape beach - well, it does if you have my active imagination.
The builders are here. Snagging. Hopefully for their last week until the finaly snag in six months. Then we can pay them and keep our retention and get on with the job of making the house livaeble. At least this weather has meant that we have had the chance to spot and leaks early on.0 -
Roz, does that mean you can move in now?0
