BD - I think that's just in England the selling off of patients details?

I read about this a while back in the Gardian. I received a form a few months back & thought it was from the hospital & started to fill it in & then the details the wanted became more & more intrusive, personal eg: wage earned, job, medical conditions, medication etc. And it said it was all an anon survey, yet it had a number on it. The address on the freepost return envelope was down in Devon. I binned it.

What else has this government got left to sell off? The air?

Alfie - Hope all works out well with the claim, but don't get too caught up in it as it's sometimes just best to wash your hands of them totally as it can be like washing dirty hankies by hand.......to use a disgusting analogy. You can't get the snotters off..........

I'm like alfie and just get wet, but DW wears waterproof overtrousers when out to the hens in the rain, and very fetching she looks in them too!:rotfl:I don't know if those are what you meant Rummer, or whether there are Goretex-type trousers that breathe, like the boots and trainers that are waterproof. They won't be cheap. Overtrousers made from PVC just get hot and clammy inside, if I recall correctly from my motorcycling days.

Well, it's the wettest January on record apparently, but not here in Mid Devon. Our river still hasn't been over its banks since Christmas Eve. More rain and gales forecst for today, and indeed all the way through the first week of February, so it's far from over yet. :(

I heard someone from the Met Office on the radio saying that their estimate for the coming month was more of the same, which will put a real strain on those in places like the Somerset Levels. They need a month to dry out after the rain stops.

Although we lived close to there and noticed the lower prices, DW and I never looked at property in the Levels area. We figured that if sea levels were going to rise and winters become more extreme and unpredictable, keeping that area 'dry' might become too expensive for governments. It's beginning to look that way, whatever noises the present lot are making to placate people.

I looked at a place there with a previous partner. It was unusual I that there were trees.

Obviously didn't buy it, more luck and thoughts about the partner and future than d
    Flooding though I'll admit.
  • Alfie - great to hear you have got your boiler fixed - especially this time of year. Lets hope it stays fixed until you leave ;)

This is a very interesting article in Pulse - a magazine for doctors http://www.pulsetoday.co.uk/your-practice/practice-topics/it/over-40-of-gps-intend-to-opt-themselves-out-of-caredata-scheme/20005648.article#.UuucmrSOatE
Basically the government is selling off patient data regarding our healthcare to private companies and researchers. The data is supposed to be anonymised BUT - the data will include your date of birth, full postcode, gender, ethnicity and NHS number along with your medical details. In my view this will make it easy for, say insurance companies, to identify individuals and use the information for commercial purposes. How many people in your exact postcode, have the same date of birth and gender as you?

As some of you may know I had a long running battle with my insurer when I became too unwell to work. In my experience they were happy to lie and mislead to get out of paying up. They even put me under surveillance. I wouldn't trust them an inch.

GP's are also uneasy about this 41% of those surveyed will be opting out. But - you have to opt out by contacting your GP, otherwise you will be automatically opted in. And once the data is uploaded, that's it - you can't withdraw it.

If you want some more info here is a leaflet produced by a doctor, and you can complete the 'opt out' section to give to your GP if you are not happy to have your healthcare information uploaded
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14156524/caredata_trifold.pdf

This caredata initiative shouldn't be confused with the 'Care Summary Record' which is for the use of clinical staff http://www.connectingforhealth.nhs.uk/systemsandservices/scr/staff/aboutscr/comms/publications/4706web.pdf

Re that opt-out...I'm not very au fait with this idea..so I don't know how widely this "sharing" is being done. One of the first things I can see in this leaflet is it refers to "England". Does that mean those of us in Scotland, Ireland or Wales aren't included in this data-sharing and therefore don't have to opt out?

IVE given THEM 1 months notice....

plus ive pointed out all the discrepancies in lease/rent/repairs etc ;)

i just cant wait to move now... new year, new start :D
From all your problems, I'd be surprised if they don't just want you to go quietly, but be aware that you are may need to give a minimum of one month's notice from the tenancy start date and my tenants often fall foul of this. Check your tenancy agreement about notice periods. It's often the standard clause from these off the shelf agreements. It's a ridiculously clumsy rule, and I don't enforce if, but if it's there, landlords are entitled to.

It works like this: If the tenancy start date is the 1st and you give notice on the 1st February, then it's a month's notice, if you gave notice on the 30th January, say, the notice would be until the 1st of the following month (February). If you gave notice on the 2nd January, you have missed the deadline of that month and the "minimum month's notice from the tenancy start date" would mean that you would have to pay rent until the end of Fenruary. I don't know if that makes sense. You can see why people get confused about it.

Do you think you can go mad because of too much rain? I feel a bit deranged at the moment.

I think that Health is one of the things delegated to the Welsh Assembly Government, so the rules in Wales can be different to those in the UK. I suspect if it specifies England (only) then Wales etc won't be affected.

Garden update: no mistletoe toe seedlings that I can see, that said, I'm not putting a ladder up in this wind!

Because today's forecast was so grim we picked up an ebay purchase ( rather disappointing) as planned, but cursed that we'd arranged that for this mo
Running because it was STUNNING morning here. Now that we are back its well and truelY turning so no chance of progressing outside :(

Checking long range forecast, we seem to have an all dry weekend in a few weeks, so will dedicate that to the "commercial area" in case its the last all dryi weekend before the event planned here in march. I'd like to say maintaining will be easier, but I doubt it. I have a barn fairy who sees it as duty to mess up what I have cleared putting rubbish in cleared areas. :(. Which makes life somewhat frustrating, but at least it will be a good start.

Our pumps ( cake and septic) are being serviced next week so hopefully things will 'flow' a bit more easily and cause me less worry after that. I'm trying to limit laundry until then but its difficult....everything gets so grotty in this weather.....trousers get muddy each time we go out, dog rugs are soaked...throws spalshed.

I long for a garden with some decent hard landscaping that reduced the mud tramped in.

I leave a bit of long grass close to the route back to the house. Then, when it's like this, we can walk through it and clean our boots! :D

So grim in the polytunnel, I couldn't hear the radio, so that's it in there today. :(

Neighbours' sheep have now come over the section of hedge they are responsible for and a few are merrily grazing along the back of our fences. Hopefully, they'll be able to turn around, because they can't get back over the section I've laid! They've trashed some of the small trees I put in to improve the hedge bank further down.

This isn't the bit up by Mr Dog. I've made it impossible for sheep to get in again by erecting rusty hurdles along there. :rotfl:

I will go see the neighbours. They probably haven't any idea of what's going on, as it's all hidden to their view and they're not even 'their' sheep. Not holding my breath though......

Small patches of Grass doesn't last long with dogs! The grass really is the problem :(.

Its cleared up a bit here again.....its just frustrating now though. Ironically today, the day of room forecasted I've seem more sun than have for a while! Nadty old wind picked up though. But hey ho, que sera sera, nothing we can do about it so no point trying to fight it, eh?

My OH doesn't do cooped up in a caravan very well. It sends him a bit deranged. Obviously, it wouldn't be an issue if we didn't have three small children to referee. He wants to go out to the beach in this weather! Crrrazy!
