  • Alfie.... if you are going to take um all the way, and its going to cost, I haven't got much, but I see if I can help money wise.. I am sure I would get a few bob for hubby, if he goes down the docks swinging his handbag ..lol...

Ras, that what I am going to be using... is secondhand scaffolding boards, I did pick some up for free via FB, but hubby is using them at mo, but there is a place local to us, that sells their old boards for £5 each, they are 13ft long, so we can make our raised beds 8x5ft ...

grey here with fine rain at mo... But they have given it a bad weekend..

    I REALLY am missing ITSME....

Rhiwie... Long shot I know, have you still got any contact details for her??? addy??? maybe you could just drop a quick note, to see if things are ok??

right off to scoff my face with some welsh cakes and some little salted caramel shortcake things that were reduced in the co-op yesterday...

Chilly here today although we did have a bit of sun earlier.

Pressed the button and got the tax return submitted :j:j:j

Just spent a happy twenty minutes with the chickens in the shed. It is very theraputic watching them scratching around and chuckling to themselves. I took them out some sweetcorn so I was very popular. One brave chuck even took some out of my hand. They don't squwark with horror when I visit them now.:)

The deal of eggs in exchange for feed and somewhere to scratch around all day seems to be acceptable to them. I have put a tray down with some dry compost and DE in for them to use as a dust bath, but they don't appear to have got the hang of it yet :D:D:D

New feathers are just starting to poke through in the bald patches - but they seem to be coping pretty well with the cold weather.

Shed stinks of garlic - I bought some powder to go into their feed - and it is preferable to the smell of chicken poo.

Mr BD is going to visit his family 'up north' on Saturday, so me and the dogs, cats and chickens will have a quiet weekend.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

I do not know what size you and OH are but the best width for raised beds is twice as far as you can stretch with your arms to work the bed. That way you can access the whole width by standing on thew paths on either side; any wider and the centre bit is hard to seed, weed etc.

So anything from 3"6' to 5" depending on your arm lengths and flexibility.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

LIR - I have used slab wood in the past for raised beds but it doesn't last that long. Scaffolding boards is a great idea.

Reminds me that I did have the chance of massive beams of oak that's been underwater for years - the fish farm replace it every so often, I do hope I can still get some as it looks fabulous weathered & all grainy.

Oh, wow, that would look super. :).

I feel quite deflated tonight. ATM I feel it might be worth having a landscaper build beds because at least they'll get done
