    morning all,

Well hubby is absolutely full of it, (flu) and his eyes, looks as though he got infections in both eyes... blood shot, weeping, running etc.. been screaming at him to go to the doctors, or at least the chemist... but nope... BUT I think after last night it was sooo bad, think he might listen to me now..

I am not feeling so good this morning, sore throat, itchy eyes etc... so going to take my pot of honey to work today... and have a few spoon full throughout the day, to see if that will sooth my throat...

Now that I am up early every morning, I am starting to list things on the day...might as well make use of the time, even if it is 5 - 10 items a morning... it will save me trying to find the time during the day..

right off to make another cuppa now...lol

CTC, hope you and hubby get better soon, we've just got our our bouts of flu-like illness...wasnt pleasant.

We aim to list up to 10 items most days to make sure we use the basic shop 200 each month. Sales still reasonably strong with daily trips to PO and drop off courier. It came as a shock to the system to complete last year's tax return last week and then have to make payment of outstandings. And only just realised what Class 4 contributions are . The clear out of old stock all sold at auction yesterday and did well for us which means another cut for the tax man :(.

Just had a belated Choille day burn with cardboard scraps and boxes. Took the FIT reading as well, its been a gloomy 3 months with low generation. And its low light levels again and raining now.

Not much produce left to eat atm, just Cavalo Nero, Swiss and Ruby Chard and apples in storage, though not as tasty as the Coxs which have all gone. Rhubarb is growing well but I'll resist the tempatation to have a crumble

With garden help now arranged I'm starting to rekindle my thoughts for the raised beds, and will be having a mix of veg and ornamental, including cut flowers. So will be looking at the seed catalogues for inspiration.

Oh, and on another topic there were flowers on a sage (in the high south facing border) this week and a rose in bloom!

    I LOVE cavelo Nero.

    Lucky you rhiwfield.

Maybe I'll try and get cardboard over the veg bed this weekend so I can deal with it a bit at a time without it going crazy.

Ooh, BD the list is pretty endless tbh.....but for starters there's -

Timber DG to seven front windows (not doing the back and the attic floor were done by PO)

Plastering four ceilings & two entire rooms

Laying 60 sq m wood flooring

    Panelling one room

    Building some new fitted cupboards

Fitting new rads in five rooms

    Carpeting top two floors

    Decorating five rooms

Cladding the 1980s extension to improve appearance

    Finish painting rear elevation

    Sorting out driveway landscaping

We (well actually Mr Phoebe with a bit of help from yours truly) will be doing everything except the windows, rads, carpets and driveway ourselves. Doesn't actually seem that bad now ;):D

That's a fair list, and good Mr Phoebe can do quite a bit of it. Can see how it is daunting to sort out and pay for that level of work to be done. What are you planning to use for cladding? I see on Grand Designs that quite a few people use that wood that silvers (can't remember what it is) and I do think that looks nice - but may not suit your property Phoebe. Now the economy is picking up, it may take longer to get tradesmen in to do jobs like windows and plumbers.

My stove is currently being installed :D:D:D The installer had a 'window' and one of the good things about being home all the time is that I can be here for this sort of thing. The courier has managed to deliver the stove this morning after some forceful words were said to them yesterday, when I reached the limits of my patience with their tiddling around and inablity to apologise for their mistake.:mad::mad:

Thanks to his virtual hugs Charlie is now much improved and managed to eat most of his breakfast this morning.

CTC sorry to hear your OH is so poorly. There is a big difference between a cold and flu and flu is no joke at all.

LIR - when I was looking at oil storage tanks I saw you can also get large water storage tanks - would one of these be any good for you?

rhiwfield oh no - the dreaded tax return. Every year I do the SA return for a friend of mine and am very late this year due to moving etc. The paperwork is currently sitting on top of the filing cabinet looking at me - I must start on it soon :( Don't want her to get a fine for late return.

I'm considering those plastic food storage tanks better days. We only need to pump water from the muck into them to store to to use for feeding the veg with. I was thinking if I got say, four of them, it wouldn't be too much of an eye sore? We could fill more mind you. :(

This I'm not surprised little pv action. Its been grey a long time. Mind you, its also been mild, so its not a loss all round. :)

We have a list of twelve projects to try and achieve this year.

Fell at first hurdle with hedge cutter failing as we'd really hoped to get sides of muck heap/ slurry cleared last weekend to be on schedule to do cake this weekend. Now January's target will me a miss!

Rather than take for repair I'm considering replace, ent this time. Any recommendations? Sturdy is key, ours [STRIKE]is seriously used[/STRIKE] takes serious abuse.

Just asked OH for his recommendation and it comes with a 5 year warranty. Kawasaki KHT600D not cheap but you've got the warrenty as back up.

You angel! Will look it up! Thank you!

Edit...ah, its a normal.....we need a long arm one.....like the one on a pole....is it too cheeky to ask for a recommendation for one of those?

We use it for everything, more like a strimmer, :(. Its so much faster.

The sun being back does make a huge difference here. It hasn't been too dark a Winter as yet, but not getting the direct sun light for those 6 weeks makes me shut down - I really do.

Again, it's not pouring down. Amazing difference it does make too.

Off to block holes under fences that last years lambs are limbo dancing under.

Hope you lot with flu/colds are getting a bit better & those that have had it take it easy.

Stove now installed and installer has instructed me in the 'dark arts' of burning wood efficiently. :D:D (The most exciting 'dark art' I will ever be involved in no doubt ;) ) Will post a photo later.

Chickens still very skitty but no longer treating sweet corn, pasta and leaves with great suspicion. However Mr BD and I continue to be viewed as dangerous in the extreme. Walking up to the shed today I called out 'hello chucks' which resulted in much squawking and flapping around :):) One of them has taken a particular dislike to my muckers and always has a go at them as if her life depends on it.

Poor things BD. that's really sad. My ex batts have been quite the opposite, clingy in the extreme, slightly suffocating ly so. It makes me really sad these girls feel differently. :(
