It would really stress my friend if he didn't put on weight and she would be constantly worrying about him. She is 64 and every animal she rescues becomes her baby.

how old was the horse ? unless a health problem good husbandry would work.. barney was a lame bag of bones who cribbed. he was a top dressage show horse in "his time". [he used to do dressage when he trotted/cantered in the field :rotfl: ] he was 22 when i got him and he was never show condition again but he was as happy as larry.;)

i think if the ladies horse that needs a companion is well looked after then she needs to allow for the fact that most horses advertised as a companion are not in thier prime so allowances must be made ?

sorry sounds like im getting at you...im not i just think sometimes the premise of the perfect horse companion isnt possible

He's 21. I just think it would be too much and her mare has settled down.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I wouldn't do it either lucielle.

Why? Because there is a reason usually, and I'd want to know why, it costs money to find out why and investment. Sometimes its teeth and husbandry. As often as not its liver damage from ragwort or parasites. If you are a rescuing person so be it, if you are not or are thinly spread its no good for the critter, in many case the poor creatures go out of the fire into the frying pan.

Companions are companions or a reason, but she might look to something with an injury retiring it to the field ( plenty of them). Or to pony sales where he might get something with More similar grazing wants? It might even be worth trying blue cross or similar for a companion. They have plenty in rescue than cannot be ridden, and they tend to come well looked a for things like worms.

Thanks Lir I feel awful for having to play bad cop and to be honest I'm not that experienced but just feel it would be wrong. At the end of the day its her decision. She's been trying to persuade me to get a horse but I have done my budget and I can't afford it. not sure if I mentioned it and apologise if I'm repeating myself but DS2 has been accepted to go to Madagascar in 2015 and I/we have to stump up 125 per month whilst he raises the rest. So not possible as we have already committed to paying off for a tempur mattress which had made a difference to both of us.

  • That's going to look fab when restored CTC - lucky you :D

Brrrrr......it's cold tonight - but despite that we thought we deserved a bit of R&R, so took the plunge and ventured out into the HT with a gin & tonic (slimline for me ;))......it was so peaceful gazing up at the moonlit starry sky, but by the time we got out the cover was starting to freeze - hope there isn't any snow on the way :snow_laug

Soon warmed up though & I'm snuggled up now with the dogs in front of the wood burner :D

It is for the best that you went along with your friend Lucielle I foolishly went horse hunting on my own when in my early 20s and bought a horse that pulled at my heart strings. Many years later after a lot of time, money and heart ache I had to accept we were never going to work and I had to rehome her. I bought the wrong horse for me as my heart ruled my head and I was left too scared to ride for a long time. When making such a big decision and long term investment you need someone detached front he situation to help you.

Alfie We have had over the years a house full of animals that were rescued and had trouble finding homes. All of them have been loved dearly and given a great life. Luckily I have an OH with self control or I would have animals in every spare bit of space :rotfl:

We had a very good day today :D

    Morning all :)

Sorry I havnt posted for a bit but nothing much has been happening at Rhiw Towers, while loads of exciting things have been going on here!

I've agreed to give a gardener some regular work to maintain the garden which will help me avoid aggravating the back problems. A big overgrown bed has just been cleared and paths weeded so things are looking better already.

Other than that its the usual buying and selling. A couple of small ceramic cups were baffling me, why did they have what looked like a large glass marble in the base of the bowl. Then I saw a Bargain Hunt and it was supposed to be a rather naughty sake cup, all revealed if you covered the marble with water . DW tested them out and a sqeal of laughter later proved they were the real McCoy :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Rummer, dont forget I will have a rather heavy parcel for you when you can lift again. Let me know when its ok to send.
  • Afternoon all,

You all must be having a lie in lol...

Going to be a bit of market research on facebook, with the local florists to see if they would be interested in buying locally grown cut flowers, what flowers would they buy, and how much would they pay per flower etc...

By doing this it will give me a better idea on what could bring money in from the land...
