No Alfie... no grate, and I thought maybe no iron sill for the right hand side, where maybe you would put a kettle pan etc..
BUT he did have an old fashioned hanging style griddle he got from France... that would hang over an open fire..
I am seriously in a right pickle now... Stonemason wants us to go up to his house tomorrow, as he got some suggestions..as he thinks I don't know what I really want, and he is right...to a certain extent...
I darnt tell him about this fire option now....lol....Work to live= not live to work0 -
Oh CTC, so pleased for you. It will be beautiful. What tremendous luck!0

Good stuff, CTC!
I'm sure you'll find a blacksmith /metal worker who can make the parts you might need. Has to be worth the restoration cost. :T0 -

Marvellous CTC - It would be no bother, as Dave has said to get missing bits made by a black smith.
Just had venison again - tastes better the 2nd night, if that's possible.0 -
my BARNEY was a TB and was companion to my old NF pony. barney had had a hoof injury and left in a field to....rot
so i had him ...for 7 years and he was a gallant big old boy...loved him.
pony and he were chalk and cheese but loved each other.
bit of a faff with rugs but minor detail for the joy he gave:)
Been to see the companion. Honestly felt so sorry for him. Friend didn't want to see him without his rugs on but I insisted. So glad I did. He really isn't wintering well, ribs really prominent, very high withers. He's inside 24/7 and lightly ridden. Managed to persuade friend not to take him as it wouldn't be fair on him and her. She did thank me for coming, even though I felt like I was playing bad cop.

by "not wintering well " that could be diet ? barney always lost a bit of weight and looked poorer in winter. he was NEVER ridden whilst with me. if its a companion she wants then is she not intending to ride it ?
would it have been outside ? cos many an improvement in happiness of "getting out" barney was never stabled again with me. he changed overnight having a run around, strengthening his muscles.
maybe im soft but i would have got great satisfaction in bringing him back to being a happy horse.
just curious... WHAT wouldnt be fair on him or her ?:rotfl:
excuse me but im last resort hotel here
many a good critter has been rescued from being overlooked.0 -
Ours haven't even had much hay yet. Its an easy winter for a horse that's in because weather is mild. But its a bloody hard life in twenty four seven, worse if ip only in light exercise.....0

It would really stress my friend if he didn't put on weight and she would be constantly worrying about him. She is 64 and every animal she rescues becomes her baby.by "not wintering well " that could be diet ? barney always lost a bit of weight and looked poorer in winter. he was NEVER ridden whilst with me. if its a companion she wants then is she not intending to ride it ?
