Oh what are you thinking of? We have a deep purple feature wall in our living room and dragons blood in our hallway both of which I love, strong colours in the right space are amazing!

Well, I'd upload a photo if photo bucket were working for me :(

The chocolatey colour is quite dark. I'm wondering how dark I dare go. Not black but......nearly. :D

Its a very pokey, dark, space. It is painted very pale colour, and just feels grotty, grim. So I think we go darker. The chocolate is lovely. I can make it work no question. I think it would appeal to many when I'm finished.

But I've been looking at pictures and love the idea of darker. Its harder, less appealing to many, and would mean more work if we decide to sell, so I'm undecided.

I'm all in a quandary about pain colours again.

The colour of my pain is red for embarrassment....:o:o

On my visit to the nurse today it was all bad news. Despite living in a reasonably healthy way, with lots of exercise, plenty of fruit and veg and modest amounts of alcohol, I've put on weight and my blood pressure is now unacceptably high. :(

I think there will have to be more pain to come if I'm to fix this, though of what colour I'm unsure.....

Edit: Oh, and I've shrunk as well!

Rummer, so glad to hear your good news! :j Try and rest as much as you can. Is Rumlet home with you yet? Best advice I was given with newborn was Sleep when the baby sleeps. ;)

Dave, sorry about your BP. Did you have cholesterol test too? If that's up it's worth checking out the Portfolio Diet... While my bad cholesterol hasn't come down, my good cholesterol has gone up, and it's the ratio that's important - at least if I understood the dietitian! :o

Sorry to hear this though. :(:( Mr BD has similiar problems despite being a Postie and running/cycling a couple of times a week. We don't eat meat and he doesn't drink a great deal of alcohol but his weight around his middle is growing stubbornly. His BP not yet a problem but I can see it looming on the horizon. Very important to get your BP under control, last thing you want is kidney damage. Hope the cure the nurse has prescribed is not too painful. Changing eating habits is incredibly difficult long term.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Thanks for your thoughts, BD and maggie. :)

My cholesterol used to be low when I was in my 50s, but I've not had it done lately. I've had blood samples taken, so we'll review it all when the results for those are back.

I know changing eating habits is hard, but I have a friend who did it with remarkable results, just by reducing portion size, so I'll give that a go. Long term I'll need to look at reducing hidden salt and stuff like that in manufactured products, as we're already careful with fresh cooking to avoid bad fats and salt.

Will look up Portfolio Diet though I think I really need the Paunchfolio one! :rotfl:

It's absolutely awful here. Has been for days and days and days.

No sign of the builders this morning. That's another story....

Grrrr, just typed out a long post and the iPad crashed

So, to condense it down -

LIR - we're usually very brave with colour (as anyone that saw the RM link to our old house in Southsea will testify ;):D) and even when selling it hasn't been an issue despite these being period/darker houses. I would definitely advise being daring, rather than opting for the *same old, same old* colours :D

That said, we have been a little more restrained here, opting for plenty of Pale Oak (Craig & Rose) and other Arts & Crafts colours. We went darker in one of the newly finished shower rooms though, choosing deep chocolatey-brown mosaic tiles with copper highlights, to complement our Liberty mirror and A&C wall cabinet. DS thought it would look too *boutique hotel* and I was a little concerned about re-sale, what with it being a dark, beamy room anyway, but it looks rich and welcoming (imho ;))

    Go for it, I say!

Dave - sorry to hear about your BP - Maggie's Portfolio diet sounds well worth trying though. It's a pita when you make all the effort to live/eat healthily, yet the results are disappointing/worrying. Had to laugh - sorry - to hear you had *shrunk*, lol :rotfl:

Personally I've gone back on the 5:2 diet in an attempt to lose the weight I've put on since moving to the countryside. I did about three months of it last Summer and it did seem to work, but this time I'm doing more exercise coupled with much smaller portions on *normal* days too!

Curiously I do less walking now than when we'd lived in a city, where I walked everywhere and stayed at a constant eight and a half stone......goodness knows what I am now - I refused to have scales in the house until I suddenly realised to take losing weight seriously I need to know my starting point :o

If I ever get photo bucket working I'll try and post up some colour schemes, maybe you'll give me your opinion :) ?

Wow CTC, doesn't the front look lovely without all that horrible render?? :j

IMO the four pane windows look nicer but there's not a lot in it.

Davesnave's done a great job of putting the new windows in - do you realise you may have made a rod for your own back there, sir, as others have renovations they may want to see the options on? :rotfl::rotfl:

Nothing to report here, except water is coming down/through our bedroom wall worse than ever before. We've asked the roofer to come back and have another look, but if it's coming through the bricks we might have to take the roof off and the wall down, and rebuild both, and the costs on that, DH reckons, will be somewhere in the region of 20-30k :eek::eek: .Not a cheerful thought for 2014.

Still agog waiting for Rummer and Rumlet news!

Keep warm dry and safe, everyone (PS welcome Fay!)

didnt you tell me it was your step son that went up on roof to fix flashing round the chimney ? maybe it wasnt done ,albeit best he could, not tight fit enough ? seems to be a long term reoccuring problem and as said once water finds a route then it can cause a lot of damage over time.
you did say your bedroom is/has been long term permenantly damp so maybe capping the chimney too may help.

edit... sorry youve said chimney is capped. BUT in the pic has chimney been reduced in height level with parrapit ? thats unusual. how/who capped that top wall ? it looks like it is level which if it is, water will follow the line [thats why window sills slope slightly and should have a groove underneath to stop water in its natural line from getting to wall] who did the work ? and you refer to a garuntee so why not get a verdict of problem from an independant builder and if associated with the garunteed work then tell them ?
are you sure that extension is victorian ? most of that kind were done in the 50s/60s +
