Enjoy the egg and chips, Alfie. We went to see the second part of the Hobbit last night. T'was very good. At one point the chap sitting behind us jumped and nearly knocked me and DD2 out of our seats with his knees. My bum was numb by the end of it. Have to wait another 12 months for the final part!

Hope everything is going ok Rummer.

Alfie, its got to be a runny egg, so you can dip your chips in it, and it can drip on your chin..lol....

Stonemaso has now changed/done 3 of the heads above the windows, one more to go ( bottom left) and then that is it the stonework is finished on the outside front... all the wooden lintels are starting to be renewed with concrete ones, once they are done, then I can get the window firms around..

I am now thinking, white windows are too stark/bright for this place, so was thinking, light oak pvc, and then when we are ready to have the doors done ( a few years down the line, once all the building work is done) have wooden stable doors made, and paint paint them maybe a sage green?? what do you think?

    Welcome Fay and jenie :D

alfie - you sound perky today despite all the trials and tribulations - must be the chips they will cheer up practically any day :D

phoebe1989seb - so is that an increase of £2,000 per month you are expected to find for the care fees?:eek::eek: Surely people just don't have that sort of money. It must be so stressful without 'leaning tower of pisa' chimneys next door to boot.

CTC - like the idea of sage green stable door. Not so sure about oak effect window frames though. May be an idea to go and have a look at somewhere the exact one has been done as some wood effect window frames are don't look too good. When we were in our bungalow the wooden window frames were painted black on the outside (and a window company put a note through the door saying we could have black upvc if we wanted ) The inside was a dark wood stain. But when we changed to white upvc it looked so much better. It was a 1970's bungalow so the white upvc looked OK, so not a direct comparison with your house. On the inside though it really surpised me how much the white lightened the rooms, and visitors commented on it too. Just something to consider. I love the bricks over the windows - look just like eyebrows

CTC... i was actually thinking white for the same reason....INSIDE..
i know people that hate the wood "look" inside...
dont forget by the time you have honeysuckle, roses, clematis growing round em, white would look really complimentary.....

better days...... havent had my egg and chips yet so i will be bouncing off the walls after then...;) :rotfl::rotfl:

Just to add CTC the first house we bought had double glazing but the frames were wood, and actually although they took a bit more maintenace I think they looked the nicest. No idea how expensive it would be compared to upvc though but might be worth considering.

Current house has wood double glazing too but hasn't been maintained and will have to be replaced. Stained dark brown along with dark brown guttering and frankly it looks ghastly both inside and out (well we don't have guttering indoors :o). Could you 'photo shop' a photo of your house to see how the light oak would look compared to white?

Better days is there no chance of overhaul? Has the seal on the glass blown?

Car filler is amazing stuff for windows. The patching jobs I've done here with it are, if I say so, pretty impressive.

LIR I must admit I hadn't considered an overhaul - not very MSE i know!

The DG units haven't blown, but the wood is rotten (mostly in the corners) inside and outside on quite a few of them. Outside the window ledges have deep splits in them as they haven't been painted or had any wood treatment on them for well over 10 years I would say. Virtually all the windows are difficult to open/close as they have warped and swollen with rain on the outside and I suspect condensation on the inside. On some of the inside of the windows someone has done a dreadful paint job and there is paint over the glass.

The back door only has single glazing (as do the bathrooms) and really needs to be done as it is a security risk. The front door is upvc (dark brown) but is very draughty and we use a curtain to try and stop the heat leaking out. Given that they also look horrible the temptation is just to start again with the lot of them.

But now you have got me thinking...
