We'll have had seven at the front by the time we've finished too:(. More at the back though. Thankfully, not all ours are sashes, phew.

The real heart break is widows with original glass but the overhaul to retain would be unlikely to save glass so cheaper / easier to put new Dg in. :(:(.

Need to decide which window/s to do this year. Been thinking of one of these precious originals, get is over and done with. :( Got three no four, more to do at front. Two don't open a all but are the beautiful sashes. One casement is in a worse state. I think that one is high on the list.

Edit: phoebe..was that from our peeps? Seems a lot for soft wood. We have hard wood historic grade Dg ( not historic grade In The kitchen though and that looks fine IMO).

    Davenaves, that's impressive!

Looks so pretty. ( personally still like Victorian windows. But think anything will buck it up :) )

CTC, were it me, in real life I'd have the doors opening opposite ways and, if you can stand lack of tradition, out wards. That way, in summer, you an pin top doors open out wards when you are pottering in the house and garden, both for fresh air and also to have scents of garden filling the house.

Its amazing how the stone works come on. I wish we'd made progress at even half the speed you guys do!

No, LIR - it was from a guy quite local to us. I have to confess we haven't got round to contacting them yet as we got swallowed up in all things *shower room* before Christmas........contacting your peeps is another job for next week when things hopefully get back on track project-wise ;)

Edited to add - Davesnave, that looks amazing.....wow!

WOW....WOW.....WOW.... Davesnave... thank you sooooooo much...doesn't it make a difference...

I think you shimmeeeed down that scaffolding pole Davesanve...lol...

We have a VERY long way to go with the house..... We started on the outside to try and get all the old rendering off etc as it was trapping all the moisture... we still got the other side to do, need the sandblasters back out in the spring to take off the flipping exterior paint they painted over the stone and lime mortar...the same thing will happen there, re-pointing... new concrete lintels over the windows etc... also once the paint has been taken off, we can see exactly the extent of the crack where they put mastic in to try and seal it... will also have to take off the rest of the rendering on the pine end.. and make the decision whether it needs to be re-built.. if it does, then we will go and find out it will cost with the extension that we have got planning permission for...

BUT this is a long way off, as we still got all the inner walls to finish hacking off, and to re-point... new floors, possible new floor joists, new electrics, plumbing... fireplace man to come and see about lining the chimley's etc...etc.... etc...

  • Wow CTC, doesn't the front look lovely without all that horrible render?? :j

IMO the four pane windows look nicer but there's not a lot in it.

Davesnave's done a great job of putting the new windows in - do you realise you may have made a rod for your own back there, sir, as others have renovations they may want to see the options on? :rotfl::rotfl:

Nothing to report here, except water is coming down/through our bedroom wall worse than ever before. We've asked the roofer to come back and have another look, but if it's coming through the bricks we might have to take the roof off and the wall down, and rebuild both, and the costs on that, DH reckons, will be somewhere in the region of 20-30k :eek::eek: .Not a cheerful thought for 2014.

Still agog waiting for Rummer and Rumlet news!

Keep warm dry and safe, everyone (PS welcome Fay!)

Meant to say, I 'm doing a re- evaluation this year of joiners. I'm very happy with prices and finish from current lot, but timing has been.......frustrating. They slip on their schedules a lot. I'm going to do another look see probably February ish.

In that eventuality, I'll do a tutorial ......:p Tis simples. ;)

Much harder is doing a Google Sketchup, which I have for our place, courtesy of DD2's partner. I can stroll around inside our renovated bungalow any time I like. :D

Doing the real thing is harder still, of course.....:o
  • Morning all,

Thinking about it, Rummer might be in Hospital for a few days..depending if induced or a C section... and also depending on how rough things went.. and most of all how little Rumlet is... I really do hope its not Bad news with Rumlet.

Ok I am going to go through my messages as I am sure I have choille's Mobile Number somewhere, if I do I will just give a quick text, Just to ask if everything is ok..as I am REALLY worried now...

I don't know how I found this site.. or even why or what I was searching for, but I think its down your way-ish Davesnave
