  • I have been up since 4am... already had 2 cuppas and a huge slice of Victoria sponge lol...

Think I might dust down my sewing machine, and do something useful before going to work...and get my crafting mojo back again....

looks as though its going to be a dryish day today.... but tomorrow, it seems as though it is batten down the hatches, and get your waders on.....

    Rummer you ok???

  • LIR so sorry to hear your news about big dog *hugs* You will do the right thing by her, we know.

Guess who hasn't written Christmas cards or wrapped the presents that need sending yet.. yep, me! Normally I haven't even finished buying presents by this time, but I was a bit more organised this year. Now I just have to get those things done, get another couple of bits for DS1... and then get DH to part with his half of the expense.

Doesn't help that the boiler is playing up again, and hot water is limited to 20-30 second bursts with a 20 second gap inbetween. At least we have heating still. DH reckons the system needs power-flushing which can't be done until next week and will cost over 200 quid.

Happy Christmas... in the poor house! :rotfl:

If you have the time over Christmas, and it's warmish, you might get away with doing your own power flush. ;)

We used to do ours when it became very noisy. Just opened the bottom drain, stuck a hose on it, fired water through the other end in the loft (once header tank was drained) and left the whole thing to run for half a day..... OK it wasn't a proper whoosh-through, like an engineer would have the kit for, but it took lots of muck out and cured the banging for a few years. :D

So long as you add inhibitor and don't mind doing all the radiator bleeding afterwards. That's the worst bit. :(

EDIT: There must be a You Tube video on this, I'd think.

The hens are confused by the warm weather, I think. Some of the pure breeds are laying again already. :)

Getting up early and doing something extra is a great idea CTC, so long as you get to sleep earlier too. I used to get up at 4am most days in the latter part of my working life, because I couldn't manage my preparation & marking in the evenings, when I'd just be yawning all the time. :o

It looks like warm, wet and windy spells alternating with calmer days right through to Christmas here. I've stuck some of the tender shrubby things outside the conservatory, where the aphids will be washed and blown away. Plants in the poly tend to be cleaned up by the wrens and blue tits at this time of year. :D

Ah, but in a 'normal' system there's usually one or two rads where most air ends up, so once you know where these are.....

And there's usually a blow-off collection valve, or whatever they call it, at the highest point too, ;)

Alf, you need to take a break :(

Both your parcels have been sent, details on your email.

Sun is shining today, ahead of storms tomorrow.

Daily Express has its usual armageddon front page weather scare, like a little boy crying wolf they may get it right occasionally but by that stage everyone has already died of boredom.

Slowly seeing the rooms clearing of junk as we sort. Its been a tough 7 days and reminds us that we aren't as young as we used to be :o

Flushing rads? Given that all our downstairs rads are fed from microbore pipes from the upstairs rads ( a long story involving a sub floor leak in the downstairs CH pipes) flushing the system will be a total nightmare, involving draining each downstairs rad

Have not read t'Express, but after four years digging into or out of the house because of heavy snow or thick ice and getting stuck in Bristol with last year's flooding, I have this vague hope of an uneventful season????
