LIR - she's a good age then & had a good innings?
Have they scanned her?
Fat cat's X rays showed that his skull was so thin it couldn't hold his eye in - we took him in at the right time as he was happy bouncy, but not right & it was not gonna last at all like that. Just seemed like an absess but the growth was huge. Didn't take much to make the right decision - there & then basically. Funny, I didn't feel overly sad as he'd been such a thumping character I couldn't have had him suffer at all - and he didn't. Yes, I do miss, but not in a sad way - if that makes sense.0 -

No scan.....the plan would be lump remove, scan would be as much or more as lump remove. Also, she's very nervous and would have to be very, very heavily sedated for a scan...so might as well just operate if we do that I think. The scan unit entry ( its in a sort of nissan hut there) would be a problem for her I think.....:o. Are your sheep Hebridean? She's about fifty percent bigger I'd say.....and she panics like a crazy sheep too, which does her spine no good........0 -
Yes, I have Hebredian. Goodness a big dog then?
Fat cat had to lay on his back & they couldn't believe how well behaved & dignified he was. He was amazing, but if big dog is skittish he would have to be heavily sedated - which they did with wee mon a little....
Oh, it's all so upsetting & yes, expensive too so the insurance thing needs looking at.
We don't have insurance, but it wasn't too badd-ish, but a big dog thing would be much more I would think.0 -
Oh dear, LIR. Sorry to hear about big dog. It's certainly not been a good few months with all the Dreamer animals :grouphug:
In fact, between us all we seem to have amassed a fairly !!!! year in many ways.
Wednesday looks like another rough weather day. I hope it doesn't add to your workers' list of fallen tree removal, choille.
Inside looks the best place to be from the forecast so it's out tomorrow & hibernate Wednesday.
Dave - I hear there's been all manner of action round your way this morning. Police bang gang, negotiators, fire brigade.......
Haven't upset a neighbour, have you?0 -

Based on what you have said about big dog's lack of enthusiasm for vets and medical things and her existing problems, my hunch is that unless if this is a simple lump removal with no further surgery or treatment expected further down the line, she is not going to be happy.
If they do a lump removal, can they tell is it has metasticised?
If not, may it be better just to accept what is and let nature take its course rather than stress her with surgery that will have limited effect?
And I know what you mean about costs; I am contributing the the dog fund instead of buying pressies for some this year - £Ks worth. Had to knock him out to xray and then it require an MRI scan.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I've left a message at the surgery for the vet to get more info tomorrow.
I think I panicked staying calm ( I was out with two Mse chums when I got the news and didn't ask important questions). They have a surgery slot Thursday ( which might not be time enough to blood screen if that might show anything, it didn't with her sister ) and Christmas Eve. So I was thinking when can I get her in, can I do this week.....can I get those days swapped...and when would the stitches come out for a Christmas Eve op, am I away that day......
Silly things you think about instead of......can we tell if its spread before we decide?0 -
Understandable LIR. You can phone back tomorrow with a list of Q's.
Fat Cat was sedated for Scan & I phoned in & was told not looking good, so went in & he was still dopey but enough to start purring when I cuddled him goodbye & I had him PTS as he was not gonna have a good time with more ops & eye socket to dress & all sorts of indignities in the near future.
It's such a worrying time but when you know more you'll be better able to make decisions.0 -
LIR, I am soooooo sorry about the news... as ITSME said it has been a sad year for a lot of on the thread this year....
We had a westie who had lumps on her boobies, and we had them removed, within a very short time, they were back... we didn't have them removed... we didn't want her to go through the stress. sadly we did have to have her PTS shortly after that..
Hopefully speaking to the vet tomorrow, will make things more clear...
I agree this time of the year you just feel low, and want to curl up and sleep until spring.. you never know these feelings could stem back to an instinct that we had thousands of years ago, when it was dark you slept...Work to live= not live to work0 -

What? Again? I once got tangled-up with a getaway after an armed robbery.......just happened to have 70 kids in tow at the time! It was very....err.....'educational.' :rotfl:
I saw the fire brigade, but like Mary and Joseph, the others must have gone by another road.
Off to Google.....0 -
I'm sorry to hear about Big Dog, lir.
You've had enough of this to deal with, but you'll make the right choice. :A0
