I don't do christmas - Bah Hum Bug, but I do send cards & letters to folks that are far off to keep in touch, but I haven't even done that this year. I also make up a food hamper for elderly neighbours & usually get OH something, but done diddly squit. I can't be bottomed............

The hens are confused by the warm weather, I think. Some of the pure breeds are laying again already. :)
The Ixworth that I got about three weeks ago is a young pullet and she's started laying. She has cosied up to the Araucana !!!! and they do lots of courting. I went to clean out the brahma growers' coop this morning and these two let rip clucking and squawking like mad things. Giving me a right telling off..... Then, I found an egg on the end of my shovel! :D

I have a list of things to do as long as my arm: repatriate foreign money which OH should have done ten years ago (talk about last minute!), fill in commissioning questionairre for sewage treatment plant, organise a few wrapped pressies for the kids, speak to our neighbours about putting the hens to bed if we have a late return home, watch the builders finish off. I think they will be more or less gone by the end of the week. We shall see.

We will have a clean shell with all first fixes done before Christmas. "All" we need to do then is connect up the rads to the plumbing, have heating system installed, second fix plumbing and electrics. Will we be in by February?
  • It looks as though everyone must have curled up and slept early yesterday, I know I did, was zonked by about 8pm.

There was tragic news in our valley yesterday, a young lad killed himself by jumping in the river...allways before Christmas... you hear bad news....

as you can see up early AGAIN....I must be excited about Christmas......NOT...Think its def going to be money in an envelope for the boys this year...

    LIR... any news????

If you have the time over Christmas, and it's warmish, you might get away with doing your own power flush. ;)

We used to do ours when it became very noisy. Just opened the bottom drain, stuck a hose on it, fired water through the other end in the loft (once header tank was drained) and left the whole thing to run for half a day..... OK it wasn't a proper whoosh-through, like an engineer would have the kit for, but it took lots of muck out and cured the banging for a few years. :D

So long as you add inhibitor and don't mind doing all the radiator bleeding afterwards. That's the worst bit. :(

Oh we've done that before, when the (smaller) heat exchange filled up with sludge. We drained the system, took all the rads off and flushed them through outside, giving them a good shake and whatever to get any gunk out. That took most of a day. We also keep a spare small heat exchange so it can just be swapped over when we lose hot water (done that already in the autumn).

We think it's the large heat exchange playing up this time, and as we have family over for Christmas we need it doing before. We've not had "kettling" ever with the small HE.

Oh well, the house is warm which is more important in my book :)

    PS No header tank here...

For some reason Christmas often brings bad news :(

It has been a busy time here and almost fell asleep last night but managed to stay awake to watch the concluding two parter of Tinker Tailor.

Nearly finished the mega sort, big load to the Dogs Trust yesterday who seemed fairly pleased. Three trips to PO/Parcel Shop yesterday but it should wind down now until Christmas afternoon boredom sets in and it kicks of again:rotfl:

DD2 and family arriving Saturday for crimbo stay, managed to clear enough space to put up a tiffy tree, which was some achievement :o Need to get in the festive mood, stay safe and dry today everyone.
  • only one Christmas dinner/day this year then Rhiwie??

we have a last minute event on in a new unit we moving too ( we have 2 units, but one of them is not fit for our purpose due to problems with neighbouring unit.... been totally stressed with that for the last 8 months... the move does mean extra rent/rate costs... which doesn't help one bit... at we have only just start moving stuff, not organised at all...lol.... but hayho... so then after Christmas the business bay account will be dusted down and will have to be up and running again, to try and cover the running costs of the place.... no pressure!!!!

Our type of business is getting extremely cut throat... and the minute you come up with a new idea etc, within a few weeks/months they are jumping on the idea... so I need to grab the local market within the first few weeks/months with the concept of the new unit.. for it to stand a chance......

Maybe this is one of the reasons I am not thinking about Christmas, not sleeping etc....

Once the leases are up on our units, ( 3 years) that's it.. I am out of this line of business..this is why I need to start looking at the ranch for some sort of small income, so then one of us will only need to work part time, or ebay full time etc

After a chat with the vet I have booked her in to have it out. The only surgery time available with one of the mostly experienced surgeons? Christmas Eve. They say the chances of them knowing on the table that its worth pts are almost zero so we'll almost certainly have her home that night (they would keep her over Christmas but of course we want her here, its just us this year, quiet and she'll be happier). Then they'll biopsy and that gives us the statistical indication of Spread. The insurers have agreed to cover, but we have decided whatever, we will offer her only palliative care beyond the lump removal. I am pretty pessimistic about it, but not in a depressed way. With her back I have been saying it wouldn't be long. This might be quicker and force our hand sooner.

Meanwhile, I think the bailiffs might have had some small success with heating people in recovering a portion of the money. 'Our' point of contact, is still in denial apparently but one of the other directors seems to have realised we are serious enough to push this to its full extent Nd its not just about money, and doesn't want to lose the ability to act as a company director.

That was about it. Thought it might be the last decent day for a while, so tried a bit too hard with tree cutting etc. :o

Glad the insurers are being reasonable, lir, and that you've woken up the heating people.

Christmas is well known for making people depressed, usually because of the money aspect, but also because families are forced together and don't always get on!

When I was a teenager, I invented a 'tradition' of going fishing on Boxing Day, because by then, being cooped up in the house with my parents was just too much!

This year it will be a very short Christmas with only one DD here. We get on OK, so she won't need to go fishing! :rotfl:

Well. The weather certainly stinks now. Cold, wet, and windy today. House is feeling dank.
