Davesnave, your post about fishing on Boxing Day brought back memories for me. We used to have a caravan on a fishery (coarse) and every Christmas they did a charity fish-in. One particular year I thought I would enter, and not being the best person in the world to enjoy sitting in the freezing cold I was dressed up like a dogs dinner, I looked like Michelin Man (or woman lol). I must have been sat there shivering for about 6 hrs and didn't even get a bite let alone a tiddler lol, but it was great to take part, don't think I could do it now though.
Has anyone got varifocals ? I got my first pair a couple of weeks ago and I am finding them a bit like hard work, the optician said follow your nose where you want look !!! I have to read a few barcodes at work and a colleague said I look like a nodding dog lol. I hope someone can reassure me that they get better with time (please haha)

I only ever entered the one fishing competition, when I was 16. Not only did I pick the peg I wanted from the hat, but I won as well. :D

It didn't alter my opinion about fishing matches though. I didn't like the concept of staying in one place, or of worrying about how well, or badly, I was doing. Too much like work!:(

It's similar to flower/veg shows. I help DW to enter them, and I like looking at others' entries, but unless it's the village one, where we tease each other, I'm not very concerned who wins.

I'm afraid my only experience with varifocals wasn't positive. :o

I need quite a bit of'punch' in my prescription for reading, and they weren't providing it. I also didn't like the narrow field of view, which resulted in me moving my head around like a chicken! :rotfl:

It's abysmal here. The Ixworth thinks it's a duck and is soaked to the skin. The other birds aven't left the coop. They usually at least brave the shelter we've made for them, but even that's not dry today with the driving rain.

I'm plodding on trying to progress the build without breaking the bank. We need a good tiler today....

The Christmas news seems so mixed. My thoughts to all of those who aren't feeling jolly and festive due to their personal circumstances :(

only one Christmas dinner/day this year then Rhiwie??

we have a last minute event on in a new unit we moving too ( we have 2 units, but one of them is not fit for our purpose due to problems with neighbouring unit.... been totally stressed with that for the last 8 months... the move does mean extra rent/rate costs... which doesn't help one bit... at we have only just start moving stuff, not organised at all...lol.... but hayho... so then after Christmas the business bay account will be dusted down and will have to be up and running again, to try and cover the running costs of the place.... no pressure!!!!

Our type of business is getting extremely cut throat... and the minute you come up with a new idea etc, within a few weeks/months they are jumping on the idea... so I need to grab the local market within the first few weeks/months with the concept of the new unit.. for it to stand a chance......

Maybe this is one of the reasons I am not thinking about Christmas, not sleeping etc....

Once the leases are up on our units, ( 3 years) that's it.. I am out of this line of business..this is why I need to start looking at the ranch for some sort of small income, so then one of us will only need to work part time, or ebay full time etc

Yup, just the one this year :D Last year was so relaxing, while this year planning and last minute shopping, guests arriving etc is so much more stressful :o

I'm not sure of wisdom of building a business based on Ebay. The platform is morphing into preferring large sellers of new goods and the bars are being raised for the smaller business sellers. Add smiling Tony and a scammers charter and the stress levels can be demotivating. The other thing is that a clutch of low dsrs can kill the business stone dead and there is no appeal to Ebay. It makes sense for us as a second source of income but I'd never want to rely on it continuing.

Agree about matches Davesnave, we always preferrred to fish just for pure enjoyment, we've had many holidays in Devon simply for the good fishing down there, favourite time of day would be dusk when the fish come into the margins, or a bread floater on the top.
As regards the varifocals I have 30 days trial and I think I might just go back to the optician and get traditional reading and distance glasses, as I can't seem to get the hang of the narrow field of vision either lol.
Thinking of all with poorly pets.

I've got varifocals, and I adjusted better than I expected to them. There is one particular distance that I can't focus properly at, and I do need to push the glasses down my nose to read small print. :o

I'm just grateful my vision can be pretty much corrected (-14 in one eye -11 in the other with astigmitism and a couple of other problems), although I do have to go to Ruskin University for them to make the lenses up for me.

I did try those contact lenses a couple of years ago which correct the longsight in one eye and the short sight in the other, or something of the sort - but I couldn't adjust to those.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
