Just had a look on the Winter Show website CTC - looks great - loads on. Website gave me a bit of a fright as it suddenly started playing some music and woke me out of my early morning stupor :D

Exhausted after a busy afternoon yesterday being 'director of operations' whilst Mr BD cleaned out the kitchen cupboards and packed away stuff we wont need over the week. Got an old friend coming to stay on Thursday night which I am really looking forward to, some relaxation will be great although I have warned her that if she stands still for too long she may find herself wrapped in bubble wrap and taped up in a box marked 'Bedroom 3 Box 85' :rotfl::rotfl:

CTC we are completing on Friday so we hope to get the keys Friday afternoon and will go over when Mr BD gets home from work armed with cleaning cloths and potions. Anyone got any favourites for cleaning a grimy and greasy kitchen? I can't do much so long suffering Mr BD will be doing the brunt of the work. I had hoped my cleaner would be able to help but sadly her brother is terminally ill and I don't want to bother her.

LIR I do hope you get into a routine with your heating, being cold is exhausting. Keeping it on at a low level 24/7 may not be very MSE but it maybe the most practical thing to do in your circumstances. It's difficult to start the day with a spring in your step when you are freezing your backside off.

Very smart barn doors Dave come on the rest of you dreamers, post some piccies of your barns and sheds (always supposing you have nothing better to do :D:D:D)
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Cant wait, we are having a VERY QUIET Christmas this year, have only got 2 boxes of sweets, and the boxes of smellies for the boys..so far lol Really can't get my head around Christmas is only a month away...

We thought we would be having a quiet crimbo.

Now christmas lunch here will see DD2, hubby and 2 GSs; DD1, hubby and 3 GDs, DS2, DW and me. Somehow with 12 round the table, and having had a pressie opening morning, I'm not sure how quiet our quiet crimbo will be :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

And not forgetting that all the bored bay buyers will be spending and wanting their parcels packed and sent
  • BD - A steam cleaner, if you have one, is probably the best thing for a greasy kitchen. It reduces the need for any chemicals, too.

I don't have a photo sharing account :o so no barn door piccies from me, sorry.

Since we retired we usually have a quiet Christmas with just the 2 of us. So I'm, hopefully, expecting something similar this year.:)

We think its just us for Christmas. It will be only the third time and we'll really enjoy it if it comes to pass.

I dream of a future where I move electric fencing less! Having moved it all for the hedge cutting (not yet done) I have to put some back for a client today then remove it again later this afternoon. Grrrrrrrr.

    Much milder here today.

do you need another electric fence unit ? i have the one that in theory was for mabel but in practice was whats known as useless :o:D
your welcome if it helps anywhere ??

i am soooo cold here in the house !! unless i run genny [have to in the mornings, for the pump at mo] i cant keep any heat over night. i dont stack the fire up as even in his abscence i feel my sons eyes boring into me  :rotfl:

thursday is DDAY... but i may ring the waterboard today to see how they got on...
what absolutely winds me up is the agent has made no contact with me WHATSOEVER since he was last here [3rd oct]...
i refuse to ring him as i KNOW i will fly off the handle and that wont help my case.

im still feeling shittey but have to go get some boxes to pack up my back room to make way for a sofa stored in the big shed as the rats have nibbled a hole [luckily underneath!!] and im not providing a des res for critters in a posh expensive sofa !!:D

    keep well, keep warm :D

Alf, hope you get it sorted soon, it must be like banging your head against a brick wall :(.

But just to show that good customer service hasnt disappeared here is a response from a courier firm (copied to my buyer) to an email I sent about a parcel that hadnt been successfully delivered (names changed):

    "Good morning, rhiwfield

Of course I don’t mind you contacting me – this is my job and if I don’t know where things are not quite right, I cannot change them.
I’ve asked my contact in National Operations to contact xyz depot and find out why Mr ABC's parcel has not been delivered.

    Mr ABC
I have passed your contact telephone number over to my colleague, although once I have some news I will contact you direct either by phone or by text.

Please accept my sincere apologies, Gentlemen, for the inconvenience that we have caused.

    Kind regards"

As promised, made contact with Pete today, but he was already coming to see us, because he's been loaned a larger digger. :j

He'll start tomorrow, moving the mounds of soil that would otherwise hold up our planting a copse this winter. He says he'll shift all the rough stuff to Mr Dog's end and fill in the failed pond there with that, then level out the rest. :D

He'll also remove 4 apple trees we don't want, so that we can make a new link between the two fields on the driest ground.

He wasn't too impressed with my idea of making a low bank for a hedge though! I think that one isn't going to happen. :o

Rofl, I made the same suggestion over a low bank for planting a hedge upon and met with stony silence from my digger driver here dave. Makes sense to me.

I was told ' we dunt do that here'

Pete's probably wise on the hedging bank, Dave.
Believe it or not it can now be classed as unauthorised engineering work - requires planning. They tried to catch us with that one but it turned out that the work was done before the new law came into being. :D

Well he might be wise, but Pete's following of laws usually tends towards the creative end of their interpretation! :rotfl:

He said, "That there type of soil don't usually make good banks."

Translated, that probably meant: "I think it's a waste of time and diesel; you can plant a hedge, anyhow!"

He's right that the hedges here have probably been formed by 'casting up,' as people did the hedging over several centuries. A bank of this friable stuff would crumble without established plant cover.

I think we shall be doing some 'unauthorised engineering' at Mr Dog's end, but he won't say anything, as he's done more than enough of his own! :p
