Phoebe, I think its not a bad choice. London solicitors are a notoriously miserable lot. DH , the most cheerful soul I know, has had a bad incidence of stress in the last couple of years and its been heartbreaking when it hit tbh.
One of the difficulties for us is that we both chose London, and then knew London in that area was a fillers nest in many places. One of the benefits for us was DH was to qualify in three jurisdictions, CC took that option from him as employers clamped down on extras. Nevertheless, we have decided to fund one of those at least our selves if the employer won't stump up. Its a pain that sort if thing isn't tax deductible!
Edit, btw, I know of charlton alpacas.0 -
Phoebe Is there nowhere near to your son where he could rent a small studio or area of space?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

I really enjoy mucking out too, mind you only if it is shavings I really am not a fan of mucking out straw.
That makes three of us then, but I far preferred straw as long as the horses weren't deep bedded (or whatever they call it now). I used to hate the squelch under the straw.:oGood enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -

Sorry if I came across as really grumpy/possessive mother type re:DS too - it's just that for him to have worked really hard to obtain 3 As and 1 B at A level, struggling through three years at a different uni from his GF and their relationship serving against the odds, obtaining a decent 2:1 in Philosophy (yeah, I know!), then getting a good graduate job in a London law firm, only to give it up to paint/restore furniture for a pittance seems such a waste
Anyhoo, he's gorgeous, safe, healthy and we love him to bits - they're the most important things:)
I think the last sentence is all that matters. :A
DD2 has recently gained a good degree in Fine Art and is back in the job she found when I forced her to sign-on about 6 years ago!:rotfl:
OK she's in management now and marking time while her aspiring architect partner does the rest of his 5 years, but it still seems like a poor payback.0 -

couldn't he have been doing your plans?0 -
Hmmm, all this talk of virtual animals. Howsabout "adopt a horse, chicken "etc? For only a fiver a month you'll get to hear how your (dave's actually) Maran/Welsummer is doing, including eggs laid, stool consistency, performance in the chicken run race and access to chookcam.
And there's more, link in to Betfred for the latest chook race odds
And Choille hosts the Beeb for wildlife specials, including one very naughty pine marten
Cut to CTC and build that house for 100k
If lots of townies and city folk want the countryside without the mud, why not cash in and give them some virtual reality?
I think I'm joking....................0 -

No, not at that stage, but he's since used Google Sketch up to make a virtual 'finished' house for us.
Have to admit, we still find our 'flat' plan and moving bits of graph paper furniture around easier! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

We've exchanged :j:j:j
So looking forward to getting some chooks again.
Move date is begining of December.
Lots to do, but nearly a month to do it in....so even at my snails pace it shouldn't be too badIt is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
