CTC, it must be bad when people in the affluent South East complain about price increases. Still, we use cardboard boxes from stores to cut down on P&P costs and prices are left on some boxes. One local (ladies) shoe shops prices start at £100 and head into the £300-£400s. And there are plenty of boxes to be used.

Children's birthday parties used to be quite simple but fun. Now there seems to be a competition to throw the most memorable and lavish party possible..expensive as well.

Pressies for the boys? Socks are always useful, safety shoes for working on the ranch, plumb line, brickies trowel, self sufficiency books ;)

Seriously one crimbo DD2 got 5 pairs of hiking socks, everyone had at least one book, pressies were and still are something practical but not too expensive.

Dave, any idea on your part yet?

Need to get a move on, parcels to send then its babysitting the GDs. DD1 came back by train last night and DW will be back this evening

I have no news, except that the 'P' word was mentioned yesterday, but no read-throughs of the script for more than a month yet. This time it's Aladdin. :)

As you know, I sometimes put smallholding property in here. Today's has been puzzling me, as it's not sold all summer.

OK it's semi-detached and there's a blooming great factory very close by, but these are the sort of compromises one often has to make.

On the face of it there's solar panels, heat pump, German kitchen and decent enough decor, while outside there's a stable yard and manege, all decent enough too. Why's it still hanging about?

The only clue I can find is that there used to be a mill leat running right through the land, which wasn't part of the title plan, and now seems to be filled-in. Could it be that someone else owns this strip across the fields?

As a further matter of not much interest, if you go on the satellite view and head north, you'll arrive at Glenvale Nursery, which is a rural garden centre. DW and I looked at it, way back in 2007, but we didn't want a 7 day a week business with everything bought-in.

At that time, it had no mains water, just a stream, and the lower part by the road sometimes flooded. We thought there might be the chance of an ag-tied house at the top of the plot, where it was a bit gloomy and there was just about enough room, but the whole package just didn't appeal.

We were right, because there is a house there now. :)

My first thought is that they seem to have squeezed 5 bedrooms out of 3, Dave.
The land is 'suitable for grazing', slopes to the Lyd (may flood land?) & a good part seems to be used for a horse or 2 (not really enough room for more).
I think it's basically a 'room for pony' place.
Maybe they're falling between markets? Not enough promise to tempt those with money but too dear for those looking for a bargain.

CTC When my friend reached 18 his parents bought him a world map and a rucksack as a not too subtle hint that they wanted him to leave :rotfl::rotfl:

Dave That sort of property would be perfect for me as I would love to have a horse and pony at home with enough space to school them and quiet hacking nearby. Space to grow food and a small wooded area with a stream somewhere would make it perfect :D

Rhiw Most of my shoes are less than £5 although every few years I buy winter boots in the sale and that purchase always hurts! One day when in the sales the woman next to me spent £600 on a couple of pairs of shoes

As for money, no sooner do I save £20 or so somewhere when another bill goes up by £30  It feels a bit like that game Whack a Mole I am constantly thinking/reading/talking/researching about it.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!

Yes 5 beds where 3 would be better is what we have here! :rotfl:

Some of the land would flood, but probably only up to where the leat was, or thereabouts.

I'm wondering about the use of the land by locals too. If there are established dog walking routes, it can be a nightmare. :(

Edit: .....Or maybe Mr Dog's cousin lives next door?

Grapevine says another regal role, ;) but it's still wait and see, especially if others don't like what they are given! :rotfl:

Dave - I thought it was cheap but then you say it's semi-detached. That just spoils it totally....well for me it does. The rooms seem poky too, but bright.

CTC - how about a head torch. I find them so handy as they leave the hands free. A recipe book? You'd be doing their future partners a favour. A home brew kit? Possibly/possibly not.

Talking of expensive shoes - we had a client who wouldn't pay until you threatened them with court action. It was quite stressful as it was for a lot of work that had taken a lot of time & increased the value of her property by 5 figures. I saw her coming out of a very expensive shoe shop in Inverness loaded down with bags & just looked her up & down witheringly - it still took threats of legal action to get the money out of her. Some folks eh?
It amazes me how you can pick up bargains in charity shops of hardly used stuff/unused stuff & it's often really top quality. There's definately the haves & the have nots, & guess which group I'm in?

Alfie hope your waterboard stuff get's sorted.

    I'm off to Dingwall.

    What hope is there?

Got my 3 granddaughters here atm while DD1 at work. Took them up to the apple store to get some Cox's apples which are eating really well. One piped up "Do you have any Pink Lady?"

Obviously I cant compete with the big marketing bucks :(
