I The rest I'd spend on a handyman gardener and a cleaner so that we could get the jobs done that are falling by the wayside :D

I would love to have a gardener once a year in the spring to clear the beds, cut the grass and get the hedge in order as it would be much easier to then keep on top of these things. However our neighbour pays £400 to have that done very year

Rummer - do rest up. I'm sure you are going to be. Just direct OH from the sofa .........with a flexable cane!

Seriously you have achieved loads lately. What you haven't will wait.

Rhiwfield - We over engineered the house as the winds are increasing & you now get gales in the Summer. We do have high rainfall but we live on a slope & are way above sea level so we hopefully don't have to worry about flooding, but many do as the local authorities have allowed building on flood plains, plus the concreting of many areas has altered where water can go.
When we had the hurricane here the electric poles all had to be renewed and many trees were removed either by the storm or by the workers so we seem to be okay with no losing leccy this past couple of Winters - unusual as we were always going off.

The poor girl in the caravan - dreadful.

There's a lot of woodland that was put in as tax avoidance here & there's a bad patch that hasn't been maintained & trees are leaning against one another. It's right on a bad climb going over the Cooke which is steep & curves. The owners should be made to remedy it or it should be done & they should be billed. It scares me when it's blowing a gale.

LIR - take care & rest up. Some heating folks are okay, but I know what you mean.
If the ebay purchase is not up to it put it on Gumtree for spares or repair - good time to get rid of a stove.

The not progressing thing is so frustrating but - just have to slowly press on. The bath thing is annoying for you LIR - see if you can get a hip bath somewhere....no?

Reet it's torrential rain & I'm off to shift hurdles..............yuck!

Rummer, I'll probably pay £10 per hour for a guy to do some heavy work shortly. As my back has been almost pain free for over two months I'm not eager to tear it again and so the cost will be worth it if I can just do the lighter stuff. Also, by running this little home based business, there is enough coming in to pay for his time. I'm very happy that we dont have the commitment of a smallholding, or even an allotment, as that would be far too much for us and we'd have to give it up. Even now the demands of Mil, and the calls for help from our children, take up quite a bit of our time.

Choille, sensible approach on the overengineering. We are on a hillside too, with limited higher ground, but in exceptional circumstances we can get a stream flowing down the access road fed by the farmers fields and it once nearly brought down a retaining drystone bank that forms part of our boundary. That bank we have strengthened and buttressed so flooding is pretty unlikely, but wind and lightning can cause havoc with trees overhanging both the access road and power/phone line. And our roof is exposed to westerlies, so a storm can be a bit worrying.

I, too would love help with the land Rummer, but I just have to let it be at the mo.

Glad your back is holding up Rhiwfield. I saw a marvellous physio last week & what a difference - NHS too. I had to shout for a long time to get some thing done.

That's the lambs off so that's a major job done.
Spent the rest of the daylight clearing away brash that was left lying about after we took some limbs down weeks ago. I snap them into kinders & pack them round the hearth - I'll set fire to the place yet!

DW's physio took a different and rougher approach last week and sent her away in pain, but it worked! She cancelled this week's session, as she's fine again.

Here, people can refer themselves to the practice physio, rather than go through the doctor every time. Makes sense. :)

We're still burning what I'd call the rubbishy thinner wood from winter tree work over the last few years. Lots of it still there and all totally free. :D

Must get some oil in though....Apparently, it's about as low as it's been this year, though it's never cheap. We'll rekindle the love/hate relationship with the Aga some time next month. :o

Dave - I only found out that you could refer yourself to a physio after I'd managed to get an appointment - It's over two months since I fell.

I've got OH to ask for a self referral form, but they haven't sent one yet. I tell you I'm getting increasingly disgusted with the NHS here. What a change there's been recently. Glad your DW is fixed. What the physio did to my neck is what you do to a cockerel's when you want a free dinner!
Glad you are burning free wood. It's a pleasant heat is free heat & it heats you twice.

Alfie I don't let the stove burn fiercely when we are in bed. The kinders are soaking wet & just dry next to the stove. I did nearly burn a house down once stacking old very dry logs next to a stove.
