We are no where near ready to choose finishes either, but we are doing the concrete Rayburn hearth.
I just want a roof on so am playing with thoughts as it is the only thing that is keeping me sane at the mo - I just am so weary of the thought of yet another Winter in the caravan - our 6th!0 -
We've been in this house for many years and there's no doubt parts are tired and need refreshing if not replacing. Bit like DW and me!! But there is a part of me that is reluctant to replace things if an item is still functional.
This contrasts to a family I knew that liked to change soft furnishings annually
Our last big change was enforced by an internal flood, and we took the opportunity to relay floors downstairs using mainly ceramic tiles for wear.
What is clear is that choice of fixtures and finishes isnt a one off, its an ongoing process.0 -
Interiors.... I have one main priority, and I will not settle for anything less, its got to be muddy wellie friendly:D:D.
Rozee, maybe while you decide, just paint everything neutral magnolia:D, until you decide what will suit, and make your place a home.Work to live= not live to work0 -
I have spoken We just lifted textured laminate from our bathroom which was a nightmare to keep clean as muck got trapped in all the textured bits. Now we have slate which I love the look of but it shows up every splash of water and bit of dust so as long as you are happy with the extra cleaning. To be honest I like the current floor or I would go for the lighter floor or one that is close in colour to the wall tiles.
Downstairs our place has (in various parts) slate, flags & reclaimed brick floors. Upstairs are all real wood - some rooms oak, others pitch pine & various others.
I can't say that we've ever found the stone particularly cold even in the rooms without underfloor heating.
Some of the original flags have been down for centuries. We didn't lift them because, quite frankly, people just can't lay them as skilfully nowadays. There's so little room between flags that the 'joints' look more like hairline cracks.
The trick with slate is to use linseed oil & not the varnishy seal stuff which is awful, usually discolours & ends up having to be stripped off. The oiled slates & flags are easy to keep clean.0 -
Hubby has caught the decluttering bug with a vengeance :j
He has sold a few things on gumtree with more bits listed and has popped loads on free cycle too. There is a box of stuff for the charity shop and another load for the dump
Now I just need to get him keen on cleaning :rotfl:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
OOOh don'tt alk to me about paint its taken me nearly 3 weeks to decide which colour to paint the living room. The walls resemble Elmer the Elephant I've had so many different tester pots.
Had an 'orrible day today, DS1 has written his car off (he's ok) DD1 has been booted off her ASDAN course (deserved) and I've still got mum worries.
Hoping to get a better nights sleep. We've decided to splurge on a decent matress as currently we're waking up in agony. It does mean a spend on the credit card but we can't go on like this.

Luceille Sorry you are having such a horrid day. What colour have you decided to go for in the living room?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Rummer - you really sound like you're nesting! I'm drowning in clutter as I keep unpacking a box out of the shed & I'm up to elbow level in the caravan. I need some one off the TV to come sort me out. I am trying to sell what I don't want.
Lucielle sorry about all the family stuff. Your Mum must be such a worry. It can't be easy, so it's good that you have got a decent mattress. You do need to do all you can to aid a good night's rest as if you can't sleep you can't function properly - At least I can't & I get a sore throat.......from all the SHOUTING!0 -
Choille We seem to acquire clutter all the time! We both love books and have hobbies that have stealthily taken over various corners of the house. This is all combined with the fact that we are all untidy
We are trying really hard to get organised as early as possible as baby may need to make an early appearance and I want to have everything in place.
It sounds as if you are having a tough time atm, any chance of a night away?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Once I get the lambs sorted & some other bureaucratic stuff done I will start looking for a cheap Travel lodge offer - even just a couple of nights away will be good.
I seem to be in a muddle everywhere I look. I can't see myself ever being sorted out. I am really fed up with living in the van - it's worse when the clock's go back & it's mucky weather as you can't do owt outdoors so it's just sat about really. I do spend a lot of time on ebay so that is useful......but it does seem very slow at the moment.0
