Welcome to the newbies/lurkers from me too and glad to hear you made it home safely Alfie
Well, no damage to report here thankfully. It rained pretty solidly all night and there were a few large gusts of wind, but the only things that had blown over/around were a couple of wooden obelisks and some very small tree branches - no worse than we usually lose at this time of year. DH was concerned about the dogs (especially with Raffi only being a baby :A) and wanted to sleep downstairs with them for reassurance, but apart from Rossetti not wanting to venture out into the torrential rain for a last wee (bless!), they were fine
DS is driving down from Wimbledon later to stay here and work on some of his furniture projects for a few days, so looking forward to that and pleased that he has a sensible car (Defender), not some *boy racer* jobbie
Oh, and re: non-shedding dogs - neither of ours shed, we're not allergic but have enough of fur getting everywhere with our three long-haired cats, so specifically chose them for that reason!
The Spanish Water Dog is a lovely breed - not many about though, we had to travel to Manchester for ours - medium size and great temperament if you prefer a pedigree. Not only that but she cost less than our cross-breed........Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Pleased you've all survived the storm.
Torrential rain here & quite gusty - feels cold.
OH met with the roofer & after I 'lost the plot' the other week it seems he's eager to come back when the weather allows & will phone and keep us informed. ....Not holding my breath.
Thousands of Fieldfares moving through, stripping the Rowans - that time of year again.0 -

Yep, that's sort of the same issue we hadThe PO of our current house had a very cute poodle (coat left long) that I fell in love with, but DH has never liked the *poodle cut* and just refused point-blank to consider the breed.
I researched online for something that resembled an unclipped poodle and found the SWD, but no-one had any litters so we *plumped* for an Australian Mini Labradoodle. This year when we were looking to get a second dog I decided that I couldn't justify spending another (don't shoot me!) £1500 (:eek::eek:) on what's really just a posh mongrel and fortunately found a litter of gorgeous brown & white parti coloured SWDs for quite a bit lessThey are both totally gorgeous though and worth every penny to us

i just wrote a long reply and tinternet went down !!
basically whilst i understand people that go for a certain breed dog i feel the reason for having one is getting lost.
if you want a mutt to play with your kids, plod/run around, be your friend etc then get a MUTT... the dogs homes are full of them because for some reason [i have my personal view] people are more interested on what BREED they have than WHAT they have.
LIR, knows exactly what is needed for her breeds of dogs and will tell you it is a commitment to the breed that is so important , not just how it looks.
people will pay 350+ for what is in effect a x breed yet in a dogs home, where no dog can help thier looks or situation ,are plenty that i know usually on entering a loving home [for WHO they are not WHAT they are] are the most loyal MUTTs you will know.
please please consider this.0 -
I'd personally almost always have a breed or possible considet a cross for a reason( I have long wanted to register part breds and have permitted out crosses ) but I agree.( I have never crossed or wanted to myself, but I see really good reason to in some breeds)
As regards poodle cuts, they are not requisite!!,! Plain clipped poodles are very manly, gorgeous. Very few dogs more handsome IMO. Poodles are one of the its I would have in a heart beat were I well and active, but they are very bright and active, one of the brightest of the gun dogs ( often slightly dull of wit) and thrive on work so I cannot be a good home for one:(
The current poo crosses are both the very worst thing for dogs ( although are some good breeders individually they are numerous in rescue and frequently missold and represented) as well as great challenge for establishment. I hope, hope hope the lead to what I want. Pe it ted out crosses and part bred registers for health.0 -
Afternoon daydreamers and thank you again for the lovely welcome. I got up this morning to heavy rain, but luckily the storm seems to have bi-passed the Humber region and it is now sunny and blue skies, fingers crossed that that's the end of it. I hope everyone got through it safely and had no damage.
We have a beautiful rottie named Freddie, not everyones taste I know, we have had four consecutively and have found them to be loyal and loving dogs. We have never bred from any of them, just had them as family pets. Our Freddie is such a wimp, he is scared of the vacuum cleaner and hates it when I mop the floors, but we all love him to bits.
Alfie, I also have a dodgy hip, I finally got to have an xray last week and am now waiting results, although its already been confirmed that I have rheumatoid arthritis. My doc says that hip replacement is a last resort (grrr) when we all know its about costs and budgets, I bet if I paid private it would be sorted straight away.
Anyway, that's all for now, hope the weathers settled down for everyone.0 -
Love rotties.
Tbh, so few I don't like, lol. Right dog in right situation is always a winner. Right Dog in wrong situation is always hard work , but can be a disaster.0
