I thought it was time I said hello, I've been reading this forum for ages, admiring those of you who are fulfilling your dreams and those who are hoping to. We have fulfilled our dream in a much smaller way than most though, my dream was to get out of the rat race of the big city where barking dogs, loud music and rude kids were making our lives a misery. We moved to the edge of a small market town where we have a large garden backing onto fields where we walk our dog. The wildlife here is great compared to the city and the peace and quiet is relaxing. I often say to my oh "can you hear that ?" and he will say "what" and I say "nothing, isn't it great" lol.

I have been growing things that we never had room for in our previous small garden and have just picked the last of the tomatoes. I've got to get rid of the tomato plants now which I suppose should be done today before the predicted storm arrives, at the moment it is a lovely sunny morning although the wind is getting stronger. Hope its not too bad for everyone.

Welcome Jenie! It's always lovely to have someone say they've been reading the thread for a long time and have come to say hi. We are a wonderful family of like-minders here, feel free to pitch in with opinions and thoughts, positive or negative. I think between us there are very few fields that we haven't got covered in terms of a bit of expertise

Speaking of which, who knows stuff about goats? DH has decided he doesn't object to a milky coffee made half and half with goat and Jersey milk :rotfl:I don't know much about them but it's something I may consider for the future as I'm over my previous harrowing experience with a boisterous Saanen nanny (I was only ten).

Thank you for the welcome Alexelisey, my next door neighbour used to have a goat that was named Meatpie lol.
  • We kept goats for many years, Alex. Didn't milk them but DH had goats before we met & did milk those.
They can be great fun. Just don't pat them on the forehead :D

    Welcome jenie

Sometimes feel that life is a bit like a game of monopoly when finances are stretched. Can you remember when you wanted to go to jail just to avoid landing on yet another sodding hotel? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

LOL, did you have your own extra rules for monopoly? We used to collect all the fines in the middle of the board, and if you landed on Free Parking you got the lot. A great wodge of dosh  ... unless someone else had just picked it up before you! Could turn a game around completely! :rotfl:

    :wave:Welcome jenie.

Exciting times.:j I even know the car park!:rotfl:

Well, I've put concrete blocks inside the chicken sheds. It's a moot point whether I should, because if they were to go over, casualties would be much higher, but then the idea is to keep them upright.

Had a wild moment of panic when the door slammed shut and trapped me in the shed we have idle. DW is currently with MiL, and just like in space, no one would hear me scream! Fortunately, a bit of skilled jiggling freed me inside 2 minutes, but I will use the stay next time! :o:o:o

Edit: DW has now rung to say she is coming home early. Obviously doesn't trust me to cope! :p
  • Itsme and Lucielle, which breed were the goats? I like the look of the Anglo Nubians :) How long does it take to milk one by hand?

  • Rain really starting to lash down here in Glasgow. So nothing new to report :)

But seriously, looks like the storm is going up the Channel with Devon getting it in the early hours on London about 7am.
