The shipping forecast was interesting this morning. Particularly for the South/South East waters
    Thames, Dover

Southwest gale 8 to storm 10, increasing violent storm 11, perhaps hurricane force 12 later. Rough or very rough, becoming very rough or high later. Thundery showers, then rain. Good, becoming poor

    Wight, Portland, Plymouth

Southwest 7 to severe gale 9, increasing viloent storm 11, perhaps hurricane force 12 later. Rough or very rough, becoming high. Thundery showers, then rain. Good, becoming poor

That 'H' word is there. _pale_

Make sure everything is battened down, alfie & don't leave it too late getting back, I think.
Do have a great time, though, all meeting dreamers.

    hi all....

you know when they say your waiting for ever for a bus then 3 come along...... well..........

i have just been asked out to lunch by a gorgeous bloke on sunday :o
i did say that if 2 geese and half the welsh nation can come ...then yes :rotfl::rotfl:

he will have to wait..;) theres biskwits in them there hills..:rotfl::rotfl: no contest :rotfl:

about to get in a deep barf :D

ive not heard a peep yet from BUHA....
Oh, Alf, we coulda vetted him ;)

I'm really looking forward to meeting you guys. Not the best day, weather wise, though, is it?

There's no chance of our poultry not getting enough input. One or two of the children invariably have a bantam tucked under their armpit. The birds seem to take it very well. I hope the geese fair all right. Iimagine they'll be the same size as the twins.

We've fallen into a bit of a rut with the build. The builder has a new job and has had a skeleton staff here for the last few weeks. A big change after the first months when it wasn't unusual for there to be six vans parked outside. There really isn't very much to do now, which makes it frustrating because if the builder got onto it, I reckon we'd be in in less than a month.

I empathise with your situation BD. When this build started, the builder said he hoped to be finished by the end of August. We now face the best part of another Winter in the caravan.... Another cold one from the looks of things!

Still, I try ot look at the bigger picture. We are very fortunate to have. This smallholding dream has led to an awful lot of great consequences and I've met people with kind hearts and caring monds. It's quite different from the city, especially London life. We're so lucky to have what we have - and later today, we'll have some gorgeous geeses!

Our clothes are all mouldy, CTC, so you're in ghood company. I sponge where I can, forget washing!
  • The thing is Rozee I haven't really got a good excuse, as we do have a washing machine and tumble dryer in the our house and at work:cool:.

going to put the heating on in the caravan, so its nice and warm for you... hopefully we will all squeeze in,

Rozee I must admit I am envious of you:cool:, as you have planned things perfectly... you can injoy your smallholding to the fullest, as you have an income from rented property..

I was dreaming of that sort of thing, buying some cheaper end property and renting them out, I am sure someone said to cover a basic monthly income, you need 3 houses/properties to be rented out.

We need to work full time plus, for the next umpteen years, but you never know, maybe I need to keep the money I am saving/spending on the ranch, and try and buy something to rent out..

I still keep looking at the auction sites etc... some cheap properties out there, but now with this government scheme in place prices will start to go up...

Interesting reading your discussions about renewable energy - with all the increases in fuel prices it certainly focuses the mind. We looked at a house once which was powered by DIY solar panels at the side of the house. Trouble was it was a dull day and the lights weren't bright enough to see the rooms properly. That was a very 'individual' property. Had newspaper stuck on the ceiling and a push button car radio inset into the wall in the hall.

CTC - good news about the people who burgled you - like the image (or should I say odour :D ) of over cooked sprouts in a prison cell!!

Dave - Mr BD had a flu jab a few years ago and he felt dreadful afterwards too - its put him off having another one.

Had a very frustrating day on the house front. Yesterday the EA told me that we would be able to exchange after all today. But then it didn't materialise again :mad::mad: , but he didn't let me know until just before 5pm despite my emails. So we will be tied in to our rental until 27th December and the EA has basically said 'like it or lump it'. Not a happy bunny and seriously considering telling him to stuff the house and we will look for somewhere else. Mr BD said that in effect this is the last straw and he is fed up with the messing around too.

Back on RM and have found a doer upper for £150k - ohh it's tempting - and don't you just love that kitchen

Our do-er upper has cost us an additional £150K with new everything (including renewable energy), but, with the benefit of hindsight, we have done a grand design. We didn't really anticiapte the space (at least that's what there is to show for it at the moment, because we can't afford the kitchen right now!) is of a magnitude..... I do like the look of the property though, BD. It looks a bit like ours.

I have just come to my senses and am about to change out of my favourite cashmere jumper - bought 20 years ago when I was a city lawyer - into something more suitable for herding geese - what a num nuts I am sometimes.

There are many ways to skin a cat, CTC. Life is meant to be hard, I reckon. Admittedly, we are comfortable financially (we have four houses that we rent) but we left is really late to do this, so we, for example, are doing the intensive stuff with the kids now as we enter middle age. They won't leave home until we're in our sixties. And when I say comfortable, we have no extras. I never spend money on anything but the house refurb and food and poultry and expenses for the kids (for school mainly), no holidays, new clothes, shoes, trappings of modern life. I'm not complaining. I had that and it wasn't fulfilling. The things that fill my cup are my wonderful family, animals and being in nature. It'll be so good to see you and chew the fat :)

I agree. However we received another blow last night that we could all well do without. It has been a case of two steps forwards and a steady jog back. Sorry I feel I have been a bit of a moan recently.

No, you must come here and moan whenever you want!:A Ranting, or just quiet grumbling, is therapeutic.
    :D
Anyway, your attitude is at least 99% positive on here. :)

Besides, this thread is partly about how things don't usually go like they do on the telly programmes......;)

Dont know how bad this storm is going to be, ever since the 1987 great storm forecasters seem to cry wolf at the first hint of bad weather.

But after seeing patio windows bowing inwards during a severe gale I'll heed the warnings and these are now locked and braced. South facing GH autovents have had rods removed and are lashed tight, plant pots off walls, stuff stored.

With thunderstorms forecast we'll be unplugging vulnerable equipment despite surge protection as extra security. Candles ready, logs ready, food in.

Sometimes feel that life is a bit like a game of monopoly when finances are stretched. Can you remember when you wanted to go to jail just to avoid landing on yet another sodding hotel? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
  • Rummer, don't EVER feel you cant moan on here, you are part of our family, and we are here for you, so plase let of steam, moan, groan, cry and laugh on here.... its suprising by off loading on a place like this really does help..

Absolutely piddling it down here... Right aLFIE HAS JUST TURNED UP:j:j:j:j
