CTC I have noticed you have been really tired quite a bit recently, do you think a wee MOT at the docs might be useful? I know you have been through the ringer with various things but might be worth checking.

LIR I am always impressed at your approach to parasite management, if only more people were as diligent and knowledgable.

At the moment our front garden looks like a summer meadow filled with buttercups and various other wild flowers. It really is beautiful however totally out of keeping with the neat and tidy gardens around it so it will have to be cut asap!

Rummer....I wish it always worked, We were caught out only this year by an interlocking American parasite on a client's horse. Dealt with now, but apparently on the increase because of 'better' non routine worming and fecal egg counts rather than 'old fashioned' worm regardless of infestation. So we are routinely ivermectine -ing this summer as a once off summer.

    Hopefully!

I always wonder what people who don't care end up in. No vets have noticed this issue nor the three professional yards I know the horse has moved through! He could have infected a lot of yards if it were not picked up on, and I only picked up on it by luck I think.

Dave, do you have egg wars in your neck of the woods as well ? :D

No, but most people here know someone who has some hens, so we need to create incentives for them to choose ours. As we lie out of the village, there has to be a bit of conscious effort on their part, either to order some, or to stop and pick them up on spec when passing.

There are some townies too. One lady seemed to take offence when we couldn't supply immediately, though we offered to have some ready inside 24 hrs. We've sold no more to her. :(

OTOH, we have another lady who always leaves £1.40 for 1/2 doz, because she says they're worth it. :A

Near Torrington I saw a sign a few weeks back saying, "Fresh Eggs - £1.30 dozen" We couldn't contemplate selling at that price!

Surely the Bay shouldn't be reprimanding you, Alfie, without hearing your account of events, especially over a resolved issue?

If the pictures came from a third party site they may not be fussed about you or anyone else using them. It's easy enough to watermark pictures if you are fussed, like Haart estate agents and their photographic masterpieces! :rotfl:

I may have said this before, but in my first full time job, looking after thousands of deep litter and battery hens, I had to put all the very large eggs aside. These I then washed to remove the tell tale roll marks eggs would pick up from dust on the wire cages.

On Fridays, the van went out on its round, with all the "free range" extra large eggs in pride of place and at a premium price. :o:o

Arr, they wuz the 'Good Old Days' when us wuz all honest as the day is long! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

OH is keen to do Rainbow Eggs, Dave. Whereas, I prefer buying on the basis of the looks of the chicken. :D That said, we will have Marans and Aracaunas in due course. I think/hope we have a very good reputable show winning breeder just up the road who clearly loves his birds.

What other birds lay coloured eggs?

One of my three year olds has already named the black silkie hen I haven't quite bought yet "Batman".

I really should post a pic of my beautifully painted chicken hut and run ;)

:rotfl: That was when people washed eggs & didn't give a second thought.

Mind you, I have to wonder how the majority of people & animals successfully survived for hundreds of years without all the must-have anti-disease & elfin safety measures. Basic cleanliness & common sense went a long way. Sometimes I'm amazed how any of our ancestors survived long enough for us to be here today when they, apparently, didn't have a clue what they were doing.

I remember the old farmers around here (in their 70s & 80s) being particularly miffed at having to do some sort of dipping course or certificate. We'm dun it for generations & now zum bl**dy college kid says we'm need to learn how us should do it :rotfl:
