My Dad had a shop in Droylsden and we sold these. Usually known as Donkey Stones, I think the RN used them earlier when they were known as holystones.

It was a mark of a proud housewife to donkey stone the front door step, some would even do several of the paving slabs on the footpath,

They came in several colours and can still be found

I was wrong. I did get quite a bit done this pm, but the weather didn't improve, I just manned-up! :o:o

I forgot that down in the yard it's often less windy, and that was the case today.

Closing in fast now. Hens to bed before 7pm! Autumn is here with a vengeance, and as if they knew it was the 30th September yesterday, the few lingering swallows vanished overnight. :(

Gawd - lying here in bed, minding my own business, browsing MSE with the cat sleeping on the bottom of the bed. The other cat jumps onto the bed, spooks the first cat. He flies up into the air and bolts, straight into my chest, rebounds off and runs into the hall:eek:

DH comes running into the room asking what made me squwark:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Explain that unfortunately I don't have much of a 'frontage' to absorb the shock of 2kg of cat at great speed.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
