I've got an old wax jacket from the middle ages and all sorts of other stuff, including hand-me-downs. I can't be seen out on the land, so I don't care what I look like! :p

For boots, I use Dunlop safety wellies, about £16. I have some heavy leather chainsaw boots too (£90 ) and otherwise I'm gradually wearing out DD2's old trainers for her, as they are the wide type that skateboarders wear. They fit my fat feet. :)

I wore some stout leather boots of a quality make this morning when out for a longish walk. Came home with wet feet. :( DD2 would tell me I should have bought Goretex boots, and she'd be right. :o

I buy cheap jackets and trash them. Will be keen to see what waterproof wear others recommend. We find ours gets shredded in brambles, so don't bother anymore.

Thats the boots I own! I think you recommended them before and they are certainly warm and very comfy! The only issue I have with them is that the body part of the boot is not waterproof.

I need a warm waterproof coat/jacket with a decent hood that doesn't leak and some sort of sensible trousers/waterproof trousers.

Yep, I take the stance that if its deeper than my ankle its not safe for me, so they work for me, but not everyone!

Decent coats and trousers, I'll be keen to get info on too :)

Hi Rummer, I have 2 pairs of boots from these folks:
http://www.nznature.co.nz/Original-Sheepskin-Boots_97.aspx

They ain't cheap, but are lovely and cosy and comfortable. They are washable too, though I haven't tried that yet and would be a bit careful of doing it unless in hot summer months! Mine are the supertread tall boots. Downside of them is if you walk all over just dug earth it gets stuck in the tread and then drops out all over yer carpet! :o So make sure you use yer doormat! :o :rotfl:

You can buy spare insoles too, so can just wash insole while spare is in place... Not tried that yet either!

I wear them in the summer if it's cold - in fact the first pair I got I wore every day for over a year (it was one of them rotten summers - 2008?) and they are great as bedroom slippers too.

After a year in the first pair (beigy colour) I indulged in a second pair (dark brown) and both going well, though have replaced insole in 1st pair as with build and move and life seems to have been happening ever since never got round to washing the first insoles! Bought both pairs in sales - worth signing up for their emails to find when sales are on.

Yes, they are horribly expensive, even on sale. But they are pretty bramble proof and I reckon these 2 pairs will see me out (after all I just hit 65th birthday back in August). First pair is at least 5 years old now, and the tread is only worn a little bit down.

Not that I walk very far, but just the sheer wearing every day and in all weathers make them good for me. I reckon you'd get a good 3 or 4 years wear out of them even if you walk a lot!

Please note, I have no financial or other connections to nznature, other than being an extremely happy and satisfied customer! I gave OH a pair for his birthday a couple of years ago, and he's a happy bunny too! :rotfl: :)

Took the car in early this morning, and although my nice garage man used the computer to interrogate it, I'd already decided it was guilty of needing a fairly expensive bit. Turned out I was right! :(

After a lot of phoning around, Mr Garage discovered that the needed part is usually supplied with another bit attached at double the price , but he eventually found someone in Bristol willing to send just the part needed. It was here by lunchtime, fitted, and all sorted by 3pm.

I'd been looking at a £600 bill, so I found myself being 'pleased' at paying half that. So good to have trustworthy people like Mr Garage. :A
• Davesnave what van have you got???

as we still have the fiat ducatto that was written off last year, we use it as storage now:D, so certain parts are available.

Rummer.. THe best weather gear IMHO is the army gortex gear... ok you do look like an action man, BUT you stay as dry as can be.

The gortex army stuff is well sort after, by the shooting/fishing boys. and I have heard on the grapevine that the army are now only being issued with the desert wear, so the traditional green colour clothing is going to get harder and harder to get in a few years...

I also agree with Davesnave, a good wax jacket is worth its weight in gold...

Rummer I have a EMW water proof waxed cotton jacket that is too big so I get a massive jumper underneath. It has a button out/in fleece lining & I paid £3 for it in a charity shop 5 years ago when it wears out I would happily pay £100 for another as the muck falls off & it does what it says on the tin. Sheep smells also seem to vanish from it quickly -I use it when working the sheep. It didn't come with its button hood - guess that was lost in action.

Boots - I got a new Timberland pair - again from a charity shop for £10 - think they cost about £100. They are as light as thistledown & the bottom bit is a sort of rubber so good for wading through sheep/hen shoite! I do have a pair of - what I call bean boots - they are rubber near the shoe bit with leather boot/leg bits. Great, but probably dear if you have to buy in a new shop - which I don't go into - much...

Again from a charity shop a pair of Dynamic water proof trousers - light weight and padded - easy to wear & warm but seem breathable so you can work in them - great. Don't know what they cost new.

Came home from my Inverness thing & saw a MOONBOW - Only knew what it was as I've seen photos. We stopped the car and gawped for 5 minutes & then it sort of melted and was gone - wonderful, wonderful, ..........a magical experience. First it looked like a search light - wonedrful, wonderful...............

The van's a Mercedes Sprinter, CTC, formerly a Transco workshop on wheels. I've stripped most of it out, as we don't need a sink and a huge amount of racking.

We spoke recently about selling it, but DW kept dodging questions when I asked her to commit to one vehicle. So, I decided we'd just keep the van! :rotfl:It's only done 46k, and as you'll know, those things are built to do Star Wars mileages. It'll go have to go one day, but not this side of major building work. Too useful. :)

Our first van was a little Fiat. Very...er.....Italian! ;):eek:
• Davesnave,

I don't think our household will be without a van.. We would never be able to manage... you can just through your !!!! in the back and away to go:cool:

Choille I have never heard of a moonbow before??

I MUST BE MAD:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool: even though I am struggling to get enough stuff for our 4 day craft event thing in Exeter, I was looking at finding out about the prices of a stand in the big 3 day quilt show in Malvern at the end of October:cool::cool::cool::rotfl::rotfl:

My seasoning.... well our way of selling stuff is a bit unique on the craft show scene.... and I think it is only going to be a matter of time before someone else tries doing it, so In my mind of wisdom :D Is to get the most out of them... But then again I might think I was a twonk for thinking it after next week's Show with the big boys:eek::eek:

If you're a short of stock then I agree that Malvern might be a bit too soon to commit to after Exeter, but it is in crimbo buying season so if you had the stock...........:D.

We're not geared up to do shows, small car, no caravan, so online is what we concentrate on. Listing furiously atm to use up the monthly shop subscription of 200 listings. Have gone through all the Ebay hoops to get premium seller ratings on most listings but it all adds to the workload when you deal in non-standard items.

With all our buying recently, and a break from selling due to wedding and hols, we have the opposite problem in having more stock than usual. Not helped by having another little flurry of non-payers and our decision to reduce our monthly clear outs of unsolds in favour of relisting.
