My crash came while I was still trying to balance working and caring by being in two places at once.

    I was lucky.

Exactly the same happened when my Dad was in hospital with heart failure and I visited then headed back down to London in his car, hit black ice, totalled the car.

He never recovered, I was unhurt and very lucky to be alive.

Just phoned DW and suggested she stays another night if she wants but I think she prefers to get back home. Social have today confirmed MIL needs 24 hour residential care so there will be a few more trips up there to sort out way forward.

It was going to be a listing day but sold 8 items in last 24 hours so its been a packing and posting day instead :)

The thing to try to remember is that it's the illness talking, not the person.

Unfortunately nobody bothered to tell us Mum had dementia (medical confidentiality) so when we were accused of stealing my Dad's money (OH had Power of Attorney for Dad - Mum refused to do that when Dad signed the forms - so was using it to pay my Dad's Nursing Home fees as well as pay Mum the housekeeping that Dad had always payed her monthly) it was just horrible.

It was my Step-Aunt who told us that Mum had dementia in her view. Her husband, my Uncle, my Mum's brother, had some form of dementia that made him violent, why my cousin was sent to boarding school in South Wales so he wasn't around. But my own GP said to me when I told her after my Mum died that she thought sometimes medical confidentiality can go too far.

It's just horrid when dementia patients turn nasty. My Dad had dementia too, though we think vascular (consultant more or less agreed when we asked). He stayed "himself" right to the end, was always glad to see us, and always the gentleman. Mum was a different kettle of fish!

Driving while under the influence of unjust accusations isn't a good idea - it's so distracting, hence my DD2's almost crash.

Big hugs to your DW Rhiwy! :grouphug: (if she feels able to have cyber hugs from someone who she never met and doesn't know!).

And big hugs to you too, Rhiwy! Supporting your DW while she is trying to deal with her Mum is an uphill battle too!

I think the best thing to do in these circumstances is to try to have at least one really good belly laugh a day. OH and I used to laugh like lunatics at some of the things that happened - highly "politically incorrect" a lot of the time, but it's as John Lennon said - "Whatever gets you through the night, it's all right, all right"!

We have a stream again; not the raging torrent we had some time ago, but a more steady flow. The banks, overhung by trees, are also damp at last, so the wild plants are making a come back too. Among them are my not-strictly-wild hellebores, many of which have somehow survived, despite being planted only a month or two before the dry weather struck. :)

Popped over to Hatherleigh this morning to collect our money from last week's poultry sale.:D Today's wasn't so well stocked, but the [STRIKE]tat[/STRIKE] household effects ready for auction were twice the quantity seen last Tuesday. We didn't stay, just nipped into the Co op and home again.

Before we left, I snapped a quick picture of the farmers at the Market entrance....

    Super sculpture Dave.

Choille, I think Berwick was a week or two ahead of us down here in that the leaves on some trees had almost gone. Swallows were gathering as well. But even in the cushy south our heating is now on first thing to take off the chill and there is a fire most nights....I'll not wear a hair shirt out of choice!

Will be getting trays etc from Mr T for storing the bumper apple crop.

Another torrential rain day, but have a trip to Inverness once OH has done some work. I'll be glad to be away for the day - well latter half of the day.

Good you had a heavy crop of apples Rhiw - we just seem to get some scabby crabs.........................

Thank you all for your support recently, it is greatly appreciated :)

Sorry to hear about the health and family worries people are experiencing at the moment.

I am going to pick your brains again :o when Rumlet arrives I will be spending a lot more time outdoors in all weathers and will be doing quite a bit of walking too. So I wondered what clothes/boots/shoes you fabulous outdoorsy people would recommend?

I buy cheap jackets and trash them. Will be keen to see what waterproof wear others recommend. We find ours gets shredded in brambles, so don't bother anymore.
