Hello Sbowden! We are a friendly bunch
I'm a little haphazardly here due to the realities of lving the dream and being in the middle of what has turned into a slightly bigger renovation project than we anticipated.
Things are coming along, although there have been some monstrous "unforeseen" costs along the way.
Right now, we have a new roof underway, the windows are ordered, the plumbing and electrics are being renewed. We are having a new woodburner which is going to heat the radiators and be our central heating system for now, also solar thermal on order.... It's all going to happen this month.
The external cladding has been decided. We went for Grey Green in the end, and approved by Planning.
The 'Rents have been called upon to extend credit to us (thank heavens for parents, eh?) and OH is working long hours to keep the unforeseen costs as low as possble. He's lifted roof flooring so we can reuse it, and is currently channeling out walls to save money on the rewiring/replumbing. We have high hopes that we will be in in October - famous last words?
And, far more importantly, I'm going to pick up our flock of Aracaunas tomorrow! There are five hens and one !!!!, so we have the prospect of little chicks around the place. It's amazing what you can't find on the internet. It would seem real chicken genetics is an esoteric artform. I can find relatively little about breeding Ameracaunas on 'Thinternet or Facebook. Does this mean it's as obscure a hobby as it may initially seem?
The birds are between two and three years old, so should have a couple of laying years left in them. The owner has personal reasons for getting rid of them, so they are going for a song. One apparently was purchased at the National Poultry Show last year and is high quality.... Watch this spaceI can also have some fun with egg colours. Now who can guess what colour egg an Aracauna-Silkie cross hen will produce? I have no idea, but you can bet I'll find out
Mad Chicken Ladies Are Us
BD, well done on the lower rent. As a landlord, I'd always rather have a good tenant than a high rent.0 -
Playing a bit of previous catch up here...Well, I wouldn't have won tomatoes, even without the blackbird, 'cos I was disqualified! Apparently, my tomatoes weren't 'cherry tomatoes,' despite the fact that every web site that describes Gardener's Delight, calls them that. They are obviously all wrong!!!
Gardeners Delight - as you say - *IS* a cherry tom! That's exactly why I grow them! They're cherry toms with the best (apparantly) flavour!
How annoying for you!:mad:0 -

is there a humanish rights group for cherry toms ??;) i think compensation is due for the poor toms hurt feelings....:D0 -

To be honest I wonder now if I have ME as have few probs with my arms, but my legs just give up on me when I try to walk. Our garden is about 20 metres long according to OH, but have to have a chair half way as well as one at the end to sit on to rest up.
Great to hear your friend was able to retrain and do such worthwhile work. But sad she had to give up her loved job. Interesting she wasn't the first - outbreak?
A Question - for anyone in the know/with experience - what tests are done to confirm/rule out ME? What symptoms did you experience?
(Just wondering because I'm pretty sure I have had CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) since I was a child and the symptoms often cross over, or you could have both conditions at the same time...plus I have a friend who's having symptoms that he's putting down to giving up smoking, but I'm not so sure!)0 -
Just read some posts about cherries, and it's made me want some, but I can't eat them!
When I eat them I feel nauseous afterwards, I don't know why, but it's only really happened the last 10 years or so. I could eat them till they came out of my ears when I was a kiddy...

Thanks CTC - sadly the medical people DID know what was going on, but it was my parents who didn't take it seriously enough. My father said "oh I just need some glucose tolerance test thing" and my mother said "oh it's up to your dad to sort himself out" and then nothing happened. And now he's developed full blown diabetes. *sigh*0
