Greyish here, but a breeze which keeps the midgies away.

The Doctor stuff is scary. I was really ill last year just before my Mother died & kept being told I had a stomache bug until it got so bad I had to raise hell to get properly diagnosed - which despite what LIR experienced, certainly wasn't like a bad date, it was excruciating but had to be done. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis & will be on meds for the rest of my life. I lost a lot of blood & ended up with anemia & was so weak I couldn't walk, but until I shouted & OH raised a noise - which he never does, I was just being dismissed.
Doctors are on huge salaries & here in the middle of no where they seem to have so many holidays, don't work nights weekends &..............Don't get me started.

The caravan is like a midden & I've not long got out of bed as surviving elderly cat kept me awake most of the night & is now blissfully fast asleep on the pillow.

Just quickly catching up as have been busy moving furniture from pillar to post - definitely NOT a good idea to a) have sooooo much stuff and b) buy even more when the house is only about 1/3 done so there's nowhere to put anything :o

CTC and r.a.i.n.b.o.w sorry to hear about your stepdad & dad - sending good wishes your/their way for speedy recoveries.

Sounds as though everyone has been getting plenty of rain - not too much here, a bit yesterday and our veggies are looking healthier - except for the ruddy caterpillars that have invaded the greens and left them in ribbons :(

A belated response to everyone's very warm welcome -

Itisme and rhiwfield - I won the auction for the sideboard on Saturday and for about 1/3 of my max bid :j Courier we use is amazing - he collected it from Scotland on Sunday and had it with us yesterday afternoon! Now I'm on a mission to search out good pieces for DS who has just given up work for a London law firm to restore & upcycle furniture (so much for his 4 A levels & university education ;)) so going to be scouring carboots and local auctions......

Thanks to everyone for their advice re: chickens vs ducks - DH visited his sister on Saturday and reported back that her new chicks are lovely, but one (Doris) had escaped - later thankfully found in some bamboo - I think with all our building work and worries over my parents (both have Dementia) we'll hang fire for the moment and do further research, but ducks definitely sound a bit messier :p

Alexelisey - you have an Exotic Shorthair? Gorgeous - we had a Shaded Silver male (Libby - long story, but the breeder erroneously believed he was a she so we called him Liberty Lily :o) - but unfortunately he passed away at only three years old :( I love both Persians and Exotics and would love another, but again don't think it would be fair to bring more furries into this building site, lol!

Davesnave - we've also had all our cherries eaten by birds. One minute the trees were loaded, next time we looked they'd all gone - our predecessors here planted a mini orchard around one old apple tree, but tbh in the three summers we've had here we've had barely any fruit - although the first year we were inundated with soft fruit :o Think I need to take some lessons from you Dave with your poly tunnels full of amazing produce!

Anyhoo, must dash - DH just come home to find me slacking again ;)

Whoah! 12 pages since I last posted. How can that be????

It's been stressful. I've kept my head down, that's why. School is out, OH has been working full pelt on the new roof (it was uncosted for, so the more he did to take off the old, the lower the costs are going to be). It's blown our budget (LIR.... words in my ears ringing yet again :) )

Anyway, Perspective: no one has died, we are where we want to live, the kids are happy, the chickens are happy :)

Really, it's a lovely life. The house build is coming on. It's grand. Once this is over, I aim for a simple life, with no complications :) Something like this:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/28/magazine/the-island-where-people-forget-to-die.html?pagewanted=7&_r=2&

Alfie, did you ever get any more Sebastopol? They are my goal for next year. The simple life: aim for geese :)

I may be buying some black indonesian chickens, because I like the look of them. Ayam cemani? Does anyone have any experience of such breeds? I'm so impractical.

On a more sober note, I'm sorry to read about the family health issues. We have plenty of our own with the 'Rents and the In Laws, so my sympathies are with you. Mum is now talking about moving to Wales.... I'd love that. It would be so much better for them. The beauty of this ginormous project is that we would have room for everyone.

I can sympathise choille, CTC & rainbow. It took me 4 years to get a diagnosis but only then I asked for a specialist referral, and then had to wait 9 months to see the consultant. By the time I was diagnosed I had received years of incorrect treatment and 'advice' which had steadily reduced the level of my functioning. Prognosis is best where PWME rest as much as possible when they first become ill. I was put on 6 different anti depressants (they kept changing them because they didn't work (not surprising as I wasn't depressed although I was peed off) - and one of which made me feel like I could fly and walk through walls :o). But worst of all I was sent to the hospital gym for a year. It really was the worst thing they could have done.

One doctor even told me I was a hypochondriac. It was a very hard time, but was such a relief when I was finally diagnosed. Unfortunately a few years later my consultant retired, and despite patient groups lobbying the NHS, he has not been replaced. So I have no care for my ME as there are no HCP's in our area with the expertise to care for people with severe ME.

phoebe - hope you made some progress after you were caught slacking :):):)

It's been quite a nice day here today, and I managed to do a pot of dianthus cuttings. Ohh, I'm so looking forward planning a new garden......
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

I'm sorry it was so bad choille. :(

Maybe I just get really bad dates;) or am a better flirt. :D

If it makes you feel less alone my neurologist is really, really awful and dismissive. She makes me feel like my quality of life is not worth considering as I should be lucky to be alive and anything that goes wrong is somehow my fault, I really hate her. I've since found out people I know and respect, friends mothers and calm older people, go to London rather than see heras she is known for her lack of compassion, she's meant to be one of the very best in the area. Tbh I'm at a juncture where I'm thinking of asking for someone else but it will be a big deal because will mean a change of hospital and I'll be considered a drama queen and not sure that's helpful either. Sigh.

I love my gasteroenterologist. He's kind and funny and laughs with me and knows I don't want to be a slave to it all all the time.

I got loads of cob/hazelnut trees, at the moment I am picking the young nuts and putting them in for the pigs to eat, before the squirrels get to them, If I can have them, then they aint going to either:rotfl::rotfl:

If Davesnave can tell me how to take cuttings etc, then I can do some for you.. sadly I think they are way too big to try and dig up and send to you:D

Surfacing for air after a far too busy day :(

Hectic preview and research, parcellings and postings (Alf, parcel on way via RM) with MIL needing medical treatment again and DS2 being very problematical. Upsetting to have problems with both children and parents at the same time.

Too tired to cook tonight so had sarnies :o

Hope tomorrow is productive buying, yesterday we packed 15 boxes to go to auction which we'll deliver Thursday so we'll have room for new stuff.

Thinking already of seed saving as retailers prices seemed to shoot up this year
