The barns themselves will never look anything better than 'useful.'

Nothing wrong with looking useful. Some of the prettiest old cottages are impractical to live in ;)

Saw the London cycle race yesterday on telly, bright sunshine, while here the heavens had opened and light levels all day long were like midwinter. Solar couldnt even manage the base load and its just the same this morning :(

When we used to go to the bike rallies all the time, come the end of August the nights use to be quite chilly, only a few more weeks, and the weather will change to Autumn.

Dull and a bit chilly today, although it will be good for getting a bit of gardening done as not too hot for working in.

Other than a bit of gardening I now need to tackle the laundry mountain

No, but these are so 'useful' I may need to put a few evergreens in the line of view between them and the house! :D

Grey and very wet first thing here and currently no sign of the moors. I still can't see the Met Office "improved" web site either, but I'm bored with ranting at them now.

Apparently it's a case of brighter later today.

Mr Dog's son and AN Other spent the whole of Sunday flailing my farmer neighbour's hedges, which is always quite a noisy activity when just one of them does it. I guess that really pleased those who only have one day off! As a rule, most of us here observe petrol machinery silence on Sundays.

Normally, Mr D the Younger calls to enquire about cutting our hedges, but last year he then sent his mate instead, who was good, but charged more than double the usual amount! This year, it looks as if they have another plan..... So have I. Pete is going to do the hedges for free. :p:p

No machinery silence round here. No option for us, dh's days off ARE the small holding days. And silage cutting or milking waits for no man.

What a miserable day yesterday and looks like more of the same today.

CTC sorry I didn't make it over, was out all day Saturday, and hid indoors yesterday ripping out carpets and moving stuff around!

Good feedback on the GOS, they were 56 and 59 kg, although they were so big the restaurant didn't need a pig last week, and they actually prefer the smaller pigs I've been sending in at the 45-50kg range.

Saturday we went to a furniture auction in Llandeilo - I've been before a couple of times, there's usually a couple of my fave welsh blankets, but this time home DH wants a new wardrobe - the temp canvas one collapsed and his stuff has been on a hanging rail for weeks.

Anyway we happened to be passing the place Friday afternoon when they have a preview, but no wardrobes, so we weren't going to go. However as Friday evening went on we decided we'd liked the look of a few bits there and last minute Saturday morning decided to go along.

Came back with a lovely old corner unit, two arm chairs, some light fittings and a bedside cabinet.

We're going all retro and putting in more classic/period furniture here now, came across an old 1930's oak fire surround by complete chance, £35, bargain, so that's set the ball rolling! One of the chairs we got at auction is an oxblood red chesterfield wing back one, so we are now looking for sofa to go with on ebay!

CTC there's a rocking chair I think in Wednesday's auction in Carmarthen, we may go along there but probably not, need to keep the ornaments down to a minimum, practical items only please!

There's no sign of the moors on the moors, either :( So that's back to normal.

Rats can have 5 litters a year, LIR :( They aren't bound to the seasons.
Pink whistley deserves a reward before being sent back out to catch some more. :D

Unusual to get them in clean, buildings though, in summer...usually in fields eating where its more plentiful..

If they are hugging the yard now they'll be swarms in winter. I was really thinking we'd got on top of the problem.

Although we've had 'rats' before, we have never had rat problem and frankly its freaking me out.

Alfie. The terrier better get some lessons in with bimble, can we arrange that? I'm radio active a week On Wednesday and then booked out for a week and a half, when I should be good to go. I'm not dangerously radioactive( though bimble is a bit wee to risk) , just I'll be tired because at hospital ALL day so will need a few days to recover, then a few days to catch up.
