I'd quite like the Kinect, if there were any decent games out for it, but (as with yourself) I don't have to space to use it.bluenoseam wrote: »But I was massively turned off when I saw the comments of Microsoft's head of interactive entertainment division which were arguably the most condescending and disrespectful comments I've seen for a while. I think in terms of value for money, from a Hardware perspective, the PS4 will win out. Not only is the launch price lower, it is utilising slightly better hardware which should produce a graphical edge over the Xbox One.
Generally speaking though, value for money is found in which console provides what you want and fans of specific platform-exclusive titles will find better value for money in the system which supports their titles.
I will most likely purchase an Xbox One, at some point, but not at launch. I do the majority of gaming on a PC, taking advantage of the whacky special offers from Steam that allows me to pick up major titles at low prices.
I do own a 360, which currently is mostly used for Netflix and Lovefilm more than it is gaming, although I do own a number of games for it that are either unavailable on PC, are released in a better version on consoles (typical of EA Sports titles) or are games that I just tend to prefer on a console.
I'm not particularly excited for the digital distribution that Microsoft has been emphasising because it is most probably a closed marketplace. PC digital distribution works because there is an open market. Steam may be dominant but there are other players, such as EA's Origin, Gamefly, Amazon etc. Valve may control more than half of the market but it is still in their interest to be competitive because companies with huge resources can take them on.
Digital distribution has been available through Xbox Live for some time - and frankly it is appalling. Games that can be picked up for £15 in store can cost closer to £50 to download to your (currently) limited hard drive. Microsoft has no competitors on Xbox Live for digital gaming distribution and thus has no need to offer products competitively. Even their "sales" are poor and retail copies are often still cheaper than a game on sale. I have a library of over 100 Steam games and a handful on Origin (a platform I also find overpriced, with some exceptions) but I have not bought any game through Xbox Live Marketplace because it does not make financial sense.
I've long felt that true value in gaming still lies in the PC. While the initial outlay may be higher, you can build yourself a desktop system in a console sized case that outperforms the consoles for around £600ish. Games themselves are generally cheaper on PC than console (although Activision and EA have been trying to stop that) and with the various Steam sales the savings you make purchasing the games can make the PC the more financially sound platform in the long term.0 -
PS4 all the way. The only reason I moved from PS3 to Xbox 360 in the first place was because of the Network and achievements. I'm a collector. It's a hard life.
So now, I'm so mad for switching in the first place!! All my pretty xbox games - well, I just don't know what I'll do with them.
PS4 won it for me. Disappointed. I expected so much more from Microsoft *sob*0 -
I am a PC gamer, so I wont be getting either. however I've voted for the PS4 simply because I think the new xbox will be sitting this one out, microsoft haven't done themselves any favours and sony seem to be listening to their customers much more. Sony are being clear about what they're offering and microsoft are not.
Spec wise the machines are only slightly different with the PS4 being marginally (but not noticeably) better. However with the atrocious amount of alleged restrictions on the XBOXONE the PS4 seems that it will be a more playable console.
I know for a fact my DF will be getting an XBOXONE however, because he is a hopeless fan boy, and will never take any negative criticism regarding it well. Even if the thing demanded living blood every hour I'm sure he'd provide, just so he can play on 25m servers in BF4.Debt Starting: £1995 | Current Debt: £1105

I was pretty much leaning towards the XboxOne but once Id read the articles on the Xbox Im now unsure which 1 to go for. Im an Xbox 360 owner and moved to xbox from PS2 as I liked the games on offer and the controller was a nice fit.
The whole must be connected to the internet once every 24 hours isnt a hughe issue for me but what might put me off is the second hand games issue, i rent games so that would be stopped i reckon.
Im planning on waiting say 6 months to gauge what other peoples views are, the games lineup and what each console is actually like before making a decision.0 -

I don't like that they won't be able to share the same game! I don't like the the fact that you HAVE to cnnect every 24hrs to the internet, and I most definitely DO NOT want a constantly connected microphone and camera in my house
I have to say that I am very concerned about Microsoft imposing a ban on used games and also, especially in light of recent events, a camera potentially watching me and listening in to everything I say. Is that Orwellian or what!0 -

Well that answer from Microsoft says it all. I'm amazed that Microsoft can treat its customers this way.
All I can say is I think the new Xbox will be a flop unless Microsoft do a u turn and eat some humble pie.0 -
I hope they do realise they're making a big mistake with it. Such a shame in regards to 2nd hand games and online 24/7 too.
*sigh* bummed0 -
PS4 without a doubt, agree with all thats been said before
we have always had playstations
but even die hard X box fans are asking "microsoft what were you thinking"????0 -
There are some misconceptions about the games for Xbox One, these clear it up a little:
http://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/1g8t5e/lets_clear_up_the_issues_used_games_kinect/
All that said, the principles of how we conduct our gaming and purchasing of games, is being dictated to us by Microsoft and their terms, which I do not agree with. If I purchase a game it should belong to me to do with as I please, not be subject to all kinds of terms and conditions.
There are just too many principle issues for me with the Xbox One to make me even consider buying it. Things such as:
- Having to check-in every 24 hours, even if you can do it via mobile phone, tablet or whatever, why should we be pushed into a corner to do this?
- Although they say the connect can be turned off, why cannot it be disconnected from the system totally so we can have our own peice of mind regarding our own privacy? Instead this peice of equipment is forced upon us.
- The launch price - Technically the Xbone is not as powerful as the Ps4, yet they are charging more than £80 more for it, likely because of the Kinect as mentioned above.
- The fact you are going to need all new hardware, i.e. the Turtle beach wireless headset I own will no longer work on the Xbox One.
- All this talk of Cloud Processing, as far as I am aware, in reality the only thing they have there is potential. They realise it has a lot of potential power, but they haven;t devised effective ways to actually harness it for your gaming experience, mainly because of latency issues (from what I have read)
There are probably more I am not thinking of, but unless they back-up and change some of their policies, I will never buy one of their machines.A smile costs nothing, but gives a lot.It enriches those who receive it without making poorer those who give it.A smile takes only a moment, but the memory of it can last forever.0
