does anyone know if it's possible to pay money/cheques into this account, to make up the required £500, using Santander cash machine?
Yes, but faster payments is typically easier and quicker and can be done in seconds.

Just a follow-up from me regarding cashback on my 1-2-3 current a/c for my 'Power NI' direct debit - Power NI phoned me earlier today to say that I will get cashback and they will contact Santander about why they are not listed on the Santander site and they thanked me for bringing this to their attention. They told me their Identifier number is 961396. Also, Airtricity replied to my query to confirm that their NI customers do get cashback too and I would be very welcome as a new customer. Still not heard back yet from Santander but expect to hear from them soon to confirm cashback due!
    :)

Santander phoned me this morning to tell me I would definitely receive cashback on my electricity DD with Power NI. That's a relief as our electricity has just been increased in price here recently by 18.7%!

Can you switch to a cheaper provider?

The Santander cashback won't make much of a dent into an 18.7% increase!

I know! The only other provider I can change to here in NI is Airtricity and they have increased their price by exact same percentage unfortunately. There is little difference between them at present.

That sounds like price fixing to me. Though presumably they will say same sort of infrastructure costs, same sort of wholesale costs, similar number of customers laah-deeh-laah-deeh-daah, and get away with it.

Site won't let me include the link but if you go to Belfast Telegraph website and put in search box the words - "Airtricity follows Power NI's lead with hike in prices." you'll see article about this.

I stated 18.7% rise, got that wrong, it's 17.8%. Seems there's a third supplier here called 'Budget Energy' but they are expected to put their price up as well. C'est la vie!

It's bad where I live (not NI) but 17.8% (or 18.&% - literally same diff) sounds outrageous. How do they justify such humungous increases when the rest of the industry creeps around the 0% mark? I can't help it but I think these energy companies are taking the proverbial, and it seems time that they get reigned in a bit. By that I don't mean they should get privatised but OFGEM needs to get some bite, or be replaced by a Regulator who has some bite.

When is the monthly fee (£2) actually charged?

I've had the first month's cashback (exactly as expected) and some interest (about right though I haven't checked it to the penny) - but no fee charged. The T&C imply it's at the same time as the cashback is paid. So have they made a mistake or is it a month in arrears?

To confirm what has actually happened - the fee was charged for the first time at the end of the first complete month and the second lot of cashback and interest was added a few days later

    So I'm a happy bunny:snow_laug - well snowman
