What is the maximum amount you can put in the TSB/BoS accounts to earn interest? The santander allows up to £20K.

    Lloyds 5k for new customers.

Actually, its £5k per account, but you can have 3 Vantage accounts with both LTSB & BoS, so effectively £30k :)

It just depends whether your the type of person who likes to have 6 accounts to save 2 quid a month or an account you can put £20k in.

Its not just to save 2 quid a month, some people don't like to put all their cash into one current account (and we all know how incompetent banks can be), so sharing 20K between 4 accounts instead of 1 Santander account distributes that risk.

Hi all, I've been with Santander right since I started with it under Girobank many years ago, then under A & L. I took the plunge this week and upgraded my current A/C to their '123 current A/C' to take advantage of the savings interest rate. I'm in N.Ireland and I had checked a few months ago on the Santander site to see which organisations qualified for cashback and I saw that my electricity provider 'Power NI' was listed as qualifying. I also pay via DD for my BT phone/broadband supply. I emailed the bank to enquire if my NI Rates (same as council tax in UK) was all paid in one single payment for whole year would I still get cashback on it and they said I would.

I went on their site again a few days ago to check the cashback organisations listed and was very surprised to see that Power NI is no longer there and bank have confirmed via email that it does not qualify. The only other electricity supplier here is Airtricity (which gets cashback) so I've sent Airtricity in NI a query to see if their NI customers would definitely get the cashback ok and may consider changing to Airtricity if it qualifies. Would be interested in your thoughts/experiences re similar cashback problems.

UPDATE....have now discovered that cashback is payable re 'NIE ENERGY LIMITED SUPPLY'. This body holds the licence for the supply of all electricity in NI with the 2 providers of it being Power NI and Airtricity NI. So it looks like I'll be ok, I will have to contact Santander about this again as looks like they have been wrong when they said Power NI is excluded.

By all means contact them but of course its upto Santander who they decide as qualifying for the cash back and at what rate.

I don't know why you have sent Airtricity a query about cash back as it's nothing to do with them.

Well, you can get cashback on the 123 A/C with Airtricity direct debit. If it turns out Power NI definitely doesn't qualify I can change my supplier to Airtricity instead. I'd want to be sure NI customers of Airtricity can get the cashback and perhaps I'd get a more reliable response from Airtricity than Santander. I know Airtricity will find out and get back to me as they are all over the place here in NI trying to take customers from Power NI! :)

It's all to do with the Merchant Codes used as explained on the Santander 123 site.

'Supermarkets: 1% cashback on purchases made at supermarkets which are identified by Supermarket Merchant Category Codes 5411, 5499 and 9751'.

'Department Stores: 2% cashback on purchases made at department stores which are identified by Department Store Merchant Category Code 5311'.

'Fuel purchases (which include petrol, diesel and LPG) made at petrol stations which are identified by Petrol Station Merchant Category Codes 5541, 9752 and 5542'.

    etc etc.

My code for British Gas boiler insurance is vaid for instance, though it's not meant to be;)

Doesn't that relate to the 1-2-3 credit card though? The poster's issue relates to the 1-2-3 current account, so I'd have thought they'd use OINs (originator identification numbers) to identify qualifying DDs?

Even I'm getting confused! Relates to the previous poster on casbacks not qualifying DDs.

What has direct debit cash back got to do with Supermarkets, Department Stores and Fuel Stations?
