i met my OH on faceparty, but generally I've had most success with girlsdateforfree
which as the name suggests is free for females but blokes have to pay. I think its the mechanics of that site that work in my favour whereas lots of other free sites I have no luck at all.
datingforparents, gdff , pocado, loopylove, quickflirt and dreamsdiscovered are all run by the same people (allegran limited) are pretty similar and did share databases between some of them, which has got to be illegal. gdff is the biggest one i reckon
plentyoffish is overly complex imho, which makes it harder for people to happen upon you. I measure success on unsolicited interest and on there I get practically none.
okcupid, freedating, smooch, matchmeuk, friends reunited dating are all a bit useless from lower user numbers
flirtbox has a great forum but the main dating site is partially text orientated and only about 20% of the userbase is recently active. there's a huge number of accounts over 6 months inactive. Also the userbase is clustered around major cities.
Love@lycos,faceparty are alright but not as good as gdff
gothicmatch, if you're that way inclined, seems alright but i never paid so havent got much out of it
friendfinder and adultfriendfinder costs a lot, plus the later is obviously for sexual encounters.
meetyourmessager is full of stupid bulletins (myspace style) and has a problem being unable to prevent dodgy profile pictures. Also because its linked to msn seems to have even more than usual men who have no sense of politeness.
there's a trend on dating sites from what i can gather. Basically a huge number of men, even on pay sites, dont read profiles, ask for sex, start off with the same pointless limited "hello" type messages. If you can carry off a polite conversation and pay attention you can't really go wrong, although getting a profile right is an art unto itself.0
