I have catered for a school leavers barbecue last night and a family lunch today, so gone over unless I count it as entertaining - but I have no budget for that so would be cheating really! Good times though and pretty frugal but lovely food. This weather is wonderful. We have been incredibly lucky and a kind friend has given us tickets for Latitude next weekend - I don't know if it is possible to eat frugally there! Off to search for any advice...

    Hi all,

Just spent £88.88 in Ts  Feeling rough today - bad headache, upset tummy and the shakes, but wasn't going to let DH loose in Ts. He definitely would've spent more than me - seriously. Got BBQ meat and salad for tonight, whole chicken, breaded haddock, 2 meals worth of chicken breast, ice creams :naughty: plus beer for DH and pop for me and the children.

Only have about £80 left now til end of July. Should do it if I really really focus.

    Mealplan:

    Today: BBQ and salad
Monday: Macaroni cheese, fine green beans
Tuesday: Tortellini with tom/mascarpone sauce, salad
Wednesday: Breaded haddock, hm chips, peas
Thursday: something with chicken - DH eating out I think
    Friday: Spag bol

    Have a good evening everyone,
    Coxy

    Hi all

It's been a long time since I posted and various reasons for that! I'm just as busy with work so I'm not sure how often I'll be posting but I need to get back in the habit. I've been following my budgets... or actually that's a lie. I've been setting them and then changing everything around when I overspend, and consequently have no money saved and owe mum and dad for work that my car had to have done a few weeks ago (hundreds :(), on top of my DMP (2nd one, needs to be the last!).

I'll be rejoining the Grocery Challenge from August if that's ok please, I get paid around the 26th but it's a small company and this can vary as it's a manual job to pay people and depends on my boss getting our overtime in on time etc! For budgeting I use 26th as payday as invariably this does work out. So my GC will run 26th-25th each month.

I have a glut of...bread at the moment! I know that's weird, but in the last couple of weeks I've had some great deals on the nice loaves, from Mr T (8p for a bakery ciabatta anyone? Or 9p fruit and nut bread?!) and also M&S I've got 2 cob loaves which were 80p each (cheaper than my normal loaves!) however no room in my freezer for them! Help!!! Bread recipes please?! I'm already having salad, houmous and bread for my evening meal practically every day at the mo due to the heat!

Anyway, just wanted to register my interest so August please put me down for:

AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE - AIM £90 for 26th July to 17th August.

This is because I am going on holiday to Lanzarote from 18th August to 25th, so cancels out that last bit of the month! My usual budget will be £125, so £25 a week plus small contingency. This isover what I would like, but less than half what I've managed to spend in a couple of recent months which is hideous when you think I used to be able to do it on £60-£70 (this month so far I've somehow spent £239.25 - unbelievable).

    Thanks!

    LC x

Came home early and had spaghetti on toast! Lovely walks etc but oh my a bit pricey. Good job it's only half an hour away. Hope you all enjoyed your day.

Oh no I just wrote a big answer to this and lost it! It's a great thread on the Debt free wannabe section of these forums but you don't have to have debt to take part. Hope you don't mind me replying Nicky noo na x

Been spoiled with free hospitality so far this weekend, in surroundings that were about as far from an MSE frame of mind as you can get.

Back to reality tomorrow with grocery shopping. My sig says I've lost the plot this month, that is right, I must be about £40 over with 2 weeks to go. Perhaps I can make up for this next month.

Thanks Mrs C will be looking into this, sounds interesting.
