Is it just me, or is indicating going out of fashion?

This is one of my pet hates
I am a regular cyclist and I always see cars that pass me who haven't indicated and have other cars behind them. I often think the car behind might not see me or the manoeuvre of the car in front and drive into the back of me.
I have considered getting some kind of sign to print on my jersey but don't think it will make a difference as they will be going too fast to notice it.0 -
''Indicate if necessary?''
Trouble is, too many obviously don't think it's necessary?
I get the impression people really want to be more & more secretive about what they are doing?
'Not talking to you...my Mum says, never talk to strangers....''No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Following the highway code is going out of fashion !
Thats why i have my tingtong car cam permanently in use in my vehicle.
Another highly dangerous practice is what i call courteous endangerment. This is where half witted motorists give way to others when it is totally inappropriate to do so. EG a driver on the major road stops to let someone out from a side road when it is inappropriate causing uncertainty for both the driver waiting to come out and other road users.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Taxi drivers round here never indicate unless they are wanting to turn right into a side road and oncoming traffic has caused them to stop.0

I see this happen all the time. People who can't manage to turn into a side road without cutting the corner. So they flash and wave the person out before they turn in. While holding up all the traffic.0 -
Yep its going out of fashion along with using common sense.
I find less drivers hardly indicate at roundabouts round here.0 -
Where I live its very rare to see indicators used at all. My town is full of dual carriage ways at the national limit too so more reason to use them really.
As a few others have pointed out, it's usually the "I'm more important than everyone else" types who seem to do it.
I've been driving since 2007 I think and I was taught to indicate. I always do so too as I think it's not only polite to others but also gives me a better chance of avoiding a collision. I know it sounds stupid but I also like the clicking sound it makes inside the dash lol.0 -

SO, do you indicate when it is un-necessary? [Simply because 'you were taught to?']
Because after 6 years of holding a licence, you really should be at quite an advanced level of skill as a driver....and by now should be looking to see if ''anybody actually needs to know'' what you intend to do?
[for the driving test, your use of indicators would be assessed on use ''when necessary, correctly, and in good time'']
Whether you see another road user indicating, or not....the question that should be asked is, 'did anyone else need to know?'
and, 'did that indication, or lack of, create a problem amongst those road users around and about?'
Using indicators can also be misleading....if done with the best of intentions, but incorrectly.... just as much as not bothering to indicate at all.
The same with the 'token-gesture' indication. [''yeah, I did indicate!''....never mind if it only flashed twice?}
If someone does something , without prior indication....and all it does is affront one's dignity, then where really is the problem?
If one copes comfortably with the actions of others, then a good job of driving has been done. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
It's not just if other cars need to know if your are indicating. People on foot need to know too. That's how I was told when learning to drive.
Many a time I have crossed the road and someone in a car trying to enter it has taken offence because I was crossing it. Only they were not indicating because they thought they didn't need too as there was no other cars about.0 -
I've adopted the method my old mate used to use, ''forgot my crystal ball'' method.
If no right turn indicator at roundabout don't be surprised when the 44 tonner going straight on from the opposite direction pulls straight out.
My mate proved this point at the mini roundabout in the middle of Newport Pagnell a lifetime ago, he started to cross the mini r'bout in his lorry and all of a sudden the car coming the other way presumably going straight ahead but actually turning right without indicating stopped and leaned on his horn.
My mate stopped completely blocking the road and wound down his window, then after the abuse from the other driver had slowed to catch breath he calmly said...''i'm everso sorry but i think the bulb has blown in your indicator''...then casually wound his window up and carried on.0
