Is it just me, or is indicating going out of fashion?

Been driving long enough to notice that fewer and fewer people deem it an obligation/safety requirement/common courtesy to indicate when they turn off a road, overtake, change lane, pull out, pull in etc, etc.
That is all.
That is all.

Maybe the increasing popularity of the 3-Series could be adding to it

People seem to totally ignore the mirror, indicate, maneuvre principle.
Moreoften when you're behind someone they just slam on the brakes and for those seconds you dont know if they're about to pull in, turn right, turn left, or are attempting an emergency stop.
All part of the 'only worry about yourself' culture.0 -
yup, this annoys the **** out of me!! nothing worse than sitting at a roundabout and no one indicates coming off so you have to wait for ages...
also where I live we have single track roads (and some good wildlife) so it's a regular occurrence for tourists to never look in their mirrors and then slam on the anchors when they see something pretty...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It went out of fashion amongst the thoughtless and inconsiderate several years ago, particularly when changing lanes on motorways and approaching or leaving roundabouts.
I'm not a fan of new laws but not indicating would have nicely complemented the proposed lane hogging and tailgating legislation.0 -
In Italy I'm not sure why they even sell cars with indicators to be honest, since people only use them if they think they themselves are impacted. On roundabouts they virtually never use them and I wish I could thank those that do. Funnily enough you can pop over the nearby border into France and you'll immediately notice much more consistent use of indicators.0

If I'm in the mood, I'll honk at people who don't indicate. They usually look confused or angry and I really worry that they're thinking about how rude I am instead of thinking 'why did he do that? Did I do something wrong? Ah yes, INDICATORS!'.
This includes roundabouts as mentioned above (not indicating to leave, also not indicating to go right/stay on), not indicating to enter a filter lane to turn (does ANYONE do this?!!) and not indicating to turn, both of which just leaves people randomly slowing down, maybe with brake lights, for no reason, until they indicate whilst turning the wheel (that's too late!) or not at all.
And of course don't forget the old sitting in the outside lane at the traffic lights, you pull up behind them, light turns green, indicator comes on and you're stuck behind them.
Are indicators really so hard to reach? Does the little flashy light in the dashboard irritate you or is the clicking unbearably loud or something?
I'm away for a wee lie down...0 -
Last time this topic came up. Someone posted that they'd recently been on a corporate/business driving course and the instructor had told them not to indicate.
The reason being that if you give an incorrect signal and somebody with a dashcam acts on that signal (e.g. pulling out in front of you from a side road because you left your left signal on) then the fact that you signalled will make you (or rather your employer) liable, but if you don't signal then that can never happen.
The person who posted it wasn't happy with this being taught, and neither am I, but I wonder how widespread it is?
As an aside, my GF always hates it when we're in the Mondeo because the indicator tick is out of cadence, and out of sync with the flasher. It doesn't bother me since I don't really have that sort of sensitivity to these things, and while she complains about it she'd complain more if I didn't signal, but I wonder if other people let this bother them enough that they choose not to signal?0 -
I heard that it is possible to pass your driving test in France without using your indicators as a turn-indicator light to French drivers is not a request but indicates an " immediate" manoeuvre.0

And another thing!
Youngsters these days have no idea what a zebra crossing is. It probably doesn't even occur to them that someone has painted part of the road a different colour?

Non indicating is one of my biggest bugbears, its usually Taxi drivers, but the trend does seem to have spread. Another annoyance is drivers who block a junction by stopping on the Keep Clear sign to make a turn, causing all traffic to grind to a halt, they look at you as if to say "what?":A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
