Can I sneak this spend in quietly......?
So I went meat shopping today with my £20 budget and managed it, well, I was over by 67p For my £20.67 I got 4lbs English pork chops, 2 large chickens for rubberising after a Sunday lunch, just over 50 shop made chipolatas and 4lb lean steak mince.something tells me that at least the sausages amnd mince will do us next month too :rotfl:
And here's my admission....
I not only bought a whole lamb, but they had English lambs in and it cost £69.50 for a whole one. I've only seen and bought New Zealand lambs from there before for £40. Oops.
...But.... There's meat there for 3 months easily, so lets call it £30 this month, £20 the next two. And the quality of meat was FANTASTIC. Really dark red and hardly any fat.
So meat spend for today is a scary £50.87. As I say I think the mince and Sausages will easily stretch to next month but I'm not sure how much they cost in the grand scheme of the meat buy so I'll hopefully just have a reduced meat spend next month
New amount spent = £102.73 ... £17.27 left of budget for fresh fruit and veg.
Oh brother.... I think I've failed this before I even start the month. I need to do some SERIOUS menu planning this month.April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
crockpot: Not sure about the others, but I do a weekly shop. I've tried to buy in bulk once a month and then buy fresh stuff on a daily or weekly basis, but I guess I'm just too conditioned. Also, I don't have enough room for a month's supply of loo roll/kitchen roll/washing powder/washing up liquid/etc. Or perhaps I'm just too idle.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0

Ive decided that once we have used up the freezer, I would like to buy more fresh/local meat and just buy a week at a time with my mealplan
...the older generation used to buy their food for one day at a time and go daily to the butchers, greengrocers, bakers and milk from milkman.
TBH though, the food in my freezer are products that have been vastly reduced and I tend to work my mealplans around my reductions, but the good reductions are more scarce to what they used to be.
What do you guys think?

Well I paid Mr Tescos a visit today and boy did it cost me  I got a bag of grapes which my DD has already eaten in one snacking session - cost £2.35  they only had one free range chicken left and it was large so it will probably do us for 3 meals this week but still it cost £7.64
so week 1 of the challenge and Im overspent already. Hopefully I can pull that back next week as I think this weeks shop will stretch to a week on Monday with just top ups of fruit, veg and milk. Am going to have a look into buying fruit from market garden too.
All the best with your grocery challenges everybody:T
ps - I shop weekly but but things like loo rolls in bulk. I havent seen any good offers for a while ( apart from magnums on bogof but Im hope they go back to normal price soon so I dont have any excuse to buy them)

I'm not doing well so far. I went to Tescos to do the weekly shop tonight and although I bought lots of veg that I've now chopped up and stuck in the freezer for future use and made a lovely Thai green curry 1/2 of which is now in the freezer I over spent a bit and also bought shampoo instead of conditioner so I'll have to go back tomorrow to exchange it and try not to buy anything else!:jToday is the first day of the rest of your life; live it as if it were your last. :beer:0

sounds like a good plan PP:)
I kind of work my food shopping like that. I go for amy's pantry principle from the tightwad gazette. I buy stuff in bulk and on sale, bargains etc and then plan my meals a day in advance depending on what needs to be used up, stuff that i have too much of and wether it will be a hot day or a cold one. it really works for me!November NSD's - 70 -
Penny-Pincher it completely depends what works for you, I don't have enough locally enough to do so. When I say I shop locally it's still a fair distance. Once I add the transport costs it would cost me a fortune to shop daily. I did try to just do tiny shops when I was waiting for a fridge freezer delivery and I'll be honest it cost me a fortune and was a complete nightmare.
I do however know I have gone OTT with stocking up lately and am trying to run stocks down, just finding the temptation to go out and buy something when there is a freezer full and the inspiration on new things to try with ingredients I have a bit hard. One day I might be more organised...........

I have spent around £16 so far (need to update sig), need 3 or 4 other bits today, plus big Tesco online order arriving Tues which said it would be £51 but more like £42 when discounts applied. They have tuna tins going buy 1 get 1 free, cauliflower cheese grills bogof and mozarella bogof as well as other things discounted. Then each week we will buy meat, fruit and veg, bread and fish.MFW #185
