More shopping today - good grief - but realised I hadn't got any cheese or bananas (pretty much staples in my house), ended up spending £5.99 in Tesco. £3 Clubcard voucher went towards a bottle of wine (Kumala Eternal reduced from £7.99 to £3.99 so I got it for 99p :j )!

Was thinking budget was looking a bit dodgy, more than half of it spent with three weeks still to go.. but got home to find I had a £10 Tesco voucher from a survey site so that will help a lot.. decided that anything I spend in vouchers won't come off my budget total, as my priority is to spend as little of the money in my bank account as possible so I might actually have some left at the end of the month to go towards debts/ savings. So if I budget £60 and spend £50 plus a £10 voucher then the £10 left in real money will go into my savings - that's the plan anyway! Sorry for rambling.. just getting that straight in my own head :o

    I'm going to join this:)

My target is £300 which for 2 adults and 2 small children and 2 guinea pigs should be easily manageable but we are on holiday (self catering) next week and usually spend a bit more on food and drink when we are away. I have totted up and we have spent on average £316 the last 4 months, and one month I was being really careful. I will reduce the target in July!

This won't include meals out but will include takeaways as I should really cook instead of having takeaways! ( And we've been spending £30-£40 a month on takeaways on top of the £316 so that needs cutting back!)

We get a veg box at £11 a week so that leaves £64 for everything else each week.

I hit the supermarket yesterday with my not-to-be-deviated-from list and I didn't. Deviate, I mean. Very pleased with myself so far. Spend just over half my budget but I got all my freezer stuff, tins and non-perishables for the month based on last months meal plans. The remaining £50 will go in the shopping purse at a rate of £10 a week for milk, fruit and veg and anything I've forgotten.
I get through a lot of honey ( I like it in my tea and bread and honey saves me buying bikkies when I fancy something sweet) and have never found it on offer anywhere but Iceland have a 100% extra jar (900g) for £2 which should do it. No other mega bargains to report though!

    Update in a week.
Good luck with your June Challenges.

    Hi.

Thought i would try a new stratergy this month and just buy what i need each day. Well that does not work for me as i was spending toooooo much. Gone back to weekly shopping and have decided that the challenge for me is to include everthing that i buy this month apart from Petrol.

    Will be interesting.

Hope it is all going well for everyone.

Righto.... I have an £80 odd pound budget left and need to do a meat top up (plus fresh fruit and veg during the month)

We're off to our local shopping place tomorrow that has a fab butchers, and I was going to go armed with £20 to challenge myself to see how much I could buy for the mony, but I'm thinking of buying a whole lamb while I'm there if they have them in... it costs £40 which I know is a huge bargain, just got to decide now if I should blow my budget on it... or halve the cost between this month and next..? Arghh.... I can't decide!

I think it just depends on how big a freezer you have! If you have a lot of space to fill (remembering that a full freezer costs less to run than a half empty one apparently) then I'd go for it and buy the lamb and half it between this month's budget and next and either freeze it in chunks or get cooking if you have some spare time and freeze a bunch of premade meals. That is a LOT of lamb though so make sure you won't tire of it!!
  • Hi everyone

I am starting my June 2007 grocery challenge today. Have got £40.00 to spend for the whole month, am living alone and am doing the store cupboard challenge, so it should be fairly easy for me this month, still have some things left over from last month so hopefully it will go well.

    Thanx
