Er you most certainly do not have to respect that.
Re bringing it into the home, i'd read the riot act, 19yo or not. If she wants to indulge she can do so in her own house.
Er, that's what I said.peachyprice wrote: »However, it's your house so I would make it perfectly clear while it's up to her what she does outside of the home you will not tolerate her bringing drugs into the house where there are young children, this is 100% not acceptable.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Or it could have been that brain changes during puberty and his genes made him pre-disposed to schizophrenia and that the weed was helping him to cope.
This is why I think it's so difficult to get a true picture of the links between weed smoking and mental health problems. A lot of people with anxiety, depression and even schizophrenia smoke to 'self medicate' because they think it helps them to cope (not agreeing either way) and then when they say they smoke and have mental health problems people will jump to the conclusion that it's the weed that caused them/makes them worse when it's often hard to know whether they would have had those issues anyway.0 -
my mums next door nieghbours son started smoking week when he was about 13 , by the time he was in his mid 20's he was admitted in to a metal hospital as a paranoid schizophrenic , where afaik he still and is now in his late 30's
My 27 yr old son is in his 3rd week of residential rehab ( going to be there at least 6months ) . he`d been smoking weed for over 10yrs .
I feel the pain of any parent who is going through it x0 -

Yes, and so was my friend's brother when we were teenagers. But he'd never so much as smoked one cigarette, never mind a spliff.
Or the woman who lived in the ground floor flat at my last place; never touched drugs but full blown bipolar psychotic breaks. Or the drummer I was talking to last week who has bipolar and hates all drugs because he doesn't want to become slow or stupid.
Same with a sizeable number of people at the hospitals I worked at; smoking was more common, drinking most of all. Drug use wasn't the one way route to inpatient admission that it's made out to be.
And people have always had mental illnesses, whether drugs abuse was involved or not.
By the way, to the poster who felt that a teenager would listen if nicely talked to; I'm not a teenager now, neither are my friends; but we're musicians so around fags, alcohol and drugs regularly. There is nothing more off putting than the prospect of somebody recently 12 stepped explaining 'how things are' or 'so you don't make the same mistakes I did'.
At 19, she's going to know full well what's going on; what happens when somebody overcooks it, what other things are available. But most weed sellers don't touch other substances, despite what the press claims. Class A sellers offer variety (for the want of a better phrase), but the guy who flogs £20 bags of weed doesn't.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

I'm sorry this has happened to your son but have to ask is he in rehab purely for smoking weed or are other substances involved, I'm curious as I have never heard of anyone going into rehab for smoking weed.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
Yes I am not denying weed can have an adverse reaction on some, but these are far and few between and compared to the mental and physical they are minimal.
I don't think it is as few and far between as you would like to think. I'm not the only person I know who reacts badly. I've had all the 'oh there must have been something in it', 'you must have taken something else aswell', 'your drink was probably spiked' crap spouted at me by smokers who refuse to admit that weed/dope is anything other than a harmless bit if fun.
But it's so the norm and so socially acceptable, that people aren't always willing to admit it's adverse effects, especially amongst teenagers who don't want to lose face.
I'm not at all anti recreational drugs in the least, I've tried most, but nothing has ever effected me like dope and I'm the most level headed, mentally stable person you could meet and was old enough at the time to know not to take it again regardless of what everyone else was doing. I can easily see how an episode like I had, especially if repeated frequently, could push someone more vulnerable over the edge. But it's hard to understand if you haven't been there or don't know anyone who has.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

An adverse reaction to weed yes can rarely lead to mental health issues but I still believe that the mental issue most likely would have been there anyway, for the majority a bad reaction to weed will be paranoia scary thoughts depression etc which unless you already have mental health issues will disappear very quickly once you stop smoking.
Have an adverse reaction to alchohol and the physical and mental ramifications are worse much longer lasting and often fatal.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
I would honestly be more worried if my daughter came home drunk...A bit of weed is not meltdown material..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

I am also intrigued because i have read report after report that says it is not addictive but may be habit forming...It does have a propensity to find out underlying problems that surface. It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?

It's worth reading this :- http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/cancer-help/about-cancer/cancer-questions/does-smoking-cannabis-cause-cancer#evidence
Our friends who died with COPD did not smoke cigarettes, and were not exposed to heavy or sustained atmospheric pollutants. But all four of them smoked weed.
Once again, I reiterate, any mind-changing substances taken in excess can be a ticking time-bomb.0
