Can anyone tell me if my tenant's new smart meter could be getting their day/night meter readings the wrong way round, and if so, how can I prove it? Their first quarterly bill is completely at odds with their previous usage but would be consistent if the day/night readings were reversed. I know this was a common issue with manual readings but I was a bit unsure if it could happen with a smart meter - any thoughts?0

I guess it's possible if the installer wired it in incorrectly. Does the property have storage heaters on an off peak circuit?Astraea_2 said:Can anyone tell me if my tenant's new smart meter could be getting their day/night meter readings the wrong way round, and if so, how can I prove it? You can test it in the same way, of course. Just put the oven on (or some other high-usage appliance) and watch which figure (day or night) increases.Astraea_2 said:Can anyone tell me if my tenant's new smart meter could be getting their day/night meter readings the wrong way round, and if so, how can I prove it? It's been about 4 months now since I had my smart metering fixed so they both work but I still have not had my IHD delivered. It's not really a big issue but was just wondering, if I bought my own, and assuming it worked (!) would my supplier be able to activate it?

It's a gamble that might be worth it if you can get it for less than £5 or £10 so you can re sell it. Who is your supplier? Most will no doubt just shrug you off and tell you they can't.carl.waring said:It's been about 4 months now since I had my smart metering fixed so they both work but I still have not had my IHD delivered. After having a smart meter fitted I did not trust the high to low change over times. It should be 12 midnight to 7am. I set my phone camera on time lapse and included a clock in picture. Playing back the video you can the display change from high to low and the clock tells you the exact times of charge over. Since fitting the timer has drifted 5 hours slow which is not a problem as I adjust water heating to match.0

That sounds like an issue with the clock (ie the timing signal) rather than the smart meter itself.0
