I am assuming that this uPVC door doesn't have a letterbox????
Why not phone your landlord and let him figure it out."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -

Right, I have applied my not inconsiderable brain power to this problem and I have a solution that will not damage the shed or the door.
1. Call the Army and ask for your local TA Royal Signals Squadron or if you have a regular unit nearby even better.
2. Ask them to deploy 2 radio relay wagons.
3. Get the radio relay opps a brew, bacon butties are also acceptable but biccies will do.
4. Ask radio relay opps to aim through the wall at the bin (but not at the door) with the antennae from both wagons.
5. Ask them to transmit on full power for 5 minutes
6. Wait 5 minutes then make sure they have powered down.
7. Try the door, the narrow beam SHF waves are like microwave energy and the 4 beams should have heated up the bin enough to make it soft enough to allow the handle to turn, but not enough to ignite.
Well it’s as sensible as some of the other suggestions on the thread. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

No one come up with a bin laden joke yet;);).
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

:j Sorry to put an end to this thread but Im in! :j
Right, my builder was busy, so I went and bought a nice Bosch mutli tool (always wanted one so it was a good excuse) and chopped the handle off, I now just need to replace the handle. I thought this was the least risky option than drilling a hole - the property is only a year or so old so any defects would probably show up like a sore thumb to my landlord and cost me and arm and a leg.
I couldnt drill the wall because the bin store is pretty much just the width of the bin, so I would have had to go through the frame. Or drill through the bricks on either side risking going into other people's garages which surround my bin cupboard.
Thank you everyone who responded - Ive never had such a great response. I must remember to start my posts with 'I cant open the door / Im stuck in the cupboard' and then as an adjunct ask for advise on the cheapest bread/milk etc!0 -

Inspite of all the correct advice you have ruined a perfect door when the door handle wasn't the issue, it was a wind up all along wasn't it?
So, you couldn't turn the handle because something, the wheelie bin was blocking the internal handle?
So you saw off the external handle? Why?
And how did you get in ??
I'm out of here, this has been a pis! take from the start, told yous so.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Cyclone come back! It honestly wasnt a wind up.
I cut off the handle to pull the spindle out enough to be able to turn the mechanism without trying to turn the stuck inner handle, as partially suggested by Kiran way back in post #2 and in more detail by Vanhaller - thanks guys. Cyclone, I can send you the remnants of the old handle and receipt for the new handy Im buying tomorrow from B and Q if that would make you happy - oh ye of little faith!
And by the way, Im not a he Im a she.:p0 -
Glad you got it sorted. How are you going to stop it happening again? Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Hi Raksha, I have a few options:
1) Stop being dumb
2) Push the bin further back (it happened because I have loads of stuff crammed in behind the bin and took a couple of things out without wedging everything back properly).
3) Take the bin out and leave it by the front door.
Im kind of thinking 3 is the way to go, with the benefit of not having to schlep around the back and unlock a door to put stuff in the bin and struggling to get the bin in and out for collections (badly designed new build property - but dont get me started on that!). Im moving at the beginning of July so its only a few weeks and I see a few other neighbours have started to do the same (there's probably a whole heap of sawn off handles around these here parts!). Option 1 may not be achievable at this late stage in my dumbness and Option 2 is probably not gonna work as I am going to be taking things in and out over the next few weeks.0
