Thanks. Heavylevy I quite like the small hole idea - the bin is empty so shouldnt be very heavy.

If the O.P. does get stuck inside, I suspect a "bag for life" thread may be beginning... I do hope so... :D

After all this, op will probably find 18 Syrian asylum seekers had crept in by hiding in the bin and are barricading the door until the consulate arrives.
European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.

Does the door have a panel at bottom that comes off if you remove the 4 strips round it?

Does it lock with a key? When I unlock my door the first turn of the key anticlockwise unlocks the door, keep turning it in the same direction and it opens the door in the same way as lowering the handle.

Great I suggest the small hole idea first and get ignored because I missed the pvc bit in the OP.

huh, I shall just go off in the huff now and not bother you again :p

I spotted you torbrex and was about to suggest the OP stops ignoring you and does as you suggest, if he hasn't already.

But just love the catch 22 situation, ie need to use the drill to get in but the drill is also locked in, :rotfl::rotfl:, still think it's a wind up:D
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

May be difficult if you are inside and door closes accidently, then we would have a reverse situation.:D

Yes of course it need the handle for just that reason:T

But once the OP resolves this, maybe removing the lever and hanging it on a nail inside the store would make sense?

    Next post from op;

"Help, I'm sending this from my mobile, I've dropped the handle down the back of the bin in my st.............................";);)

Thanks guys but no news, it's still a work in progress. All my tools are locked safely inside the cupboard so someone is coming to give me a hand tomorrow (a proper builder type person who unlike me should have an idea how to get in with minimal damage).

Basill, you had me all excited but alas the key alone wont undo all the latches.

Mummy, there isnt a panel that can be removed.

Cyclone, this honestly isnt a wind up, at least not in the sense of a joke, Id like to think I would have come up with something better eg 'Im stuck inside the cupboard'. Having said that it is winding me up no end how stooooooopid I can be sometimes! So you never know you might see a post where Ive locked myself somewhere interesting (I did get stuck in the loft once - I suddenly got too scared to step on the ladder, heard Casualty coming on tv and completely freaked myself out - and no I apparently dont have anything better to do on a Saturday night).

Anyway, I think we're either gonna cut the handle and replace it or cut a small hole and push a skewer through and try and fill it (bearing in mind Im renting and I dont really want to get lumbered with the cost of a new door).

I'll let you know what happens tomorrow.
