Wols Riverbank Tales 5: Recapitulation

Wol - if your patio is going to get more sunlight on account of the damage to the willow, then you could think about growing some veggies/fruits/flowers in containers on there.....a little project for next yaer perhaps? One life - your life - live it!0

Happy Christmas to you and yours, Wol.One life - your life - live it!0

Aww bless - Thanks Nargle
Happy Chrimbo to you and yours :kisses3:
Today Wol drove up and down the length of the M1 to bring "some house guests" back for Xmas.
I believe they introduced themselves as "a certain Numpty and recently adopted rescue cat". Not sure he wishes he'd agreed to come down now as unfortunately the really severe storm coming in tomorrow mid-day onwards til Xmas eve means Wol's Riverbank will be copping it big time.:eek::eek:
Currently sitting here pondering exactly where to safely park the car tomorrow and what flood preparations to make, whilst the other house-guest a.k.a. Tiggy the cat.... is wandering round acclimatising herself to her new surroundings and deciding where to sleep. She'll meet the piggies tomorrow!
Regrettably I'm pretty sure the stream WILL flood tomorrow pm/night given current local conditions and the amber warning for our area. The stream and river it feeds into are still very swollen from the last bout - so it is just a case of at what time, by how much..... and whether I trust the new flood defences to stand up to their first real-life test! Short answer - not prepared to risk it and the ageing Aquavac is now on stand-by.
The Xmas food shop will be done tomorrow morning with the aim of being back at the house from noon onwards when the winds get up, making final preparations and ensuring emergency evacuation plans are in place. Also how to protect Piggie Palace outbuilding from the possible flooding and moving things indoors upstairs.
It's no mean feat trying to evacuate 10 guinea pigs, one cat, 8 pet carriers and two hoomans when your whole property is being surrounded by water. Hopefully we can sit it out upstairs for the duration without being pressured by the Fire Brigade to evacuate. I have however defiantly decided I will, after all, be bringing in the tree to decorate tomorrow evening.
I really am not looking forward to this storm because the worst risks for my area will be happening at night-time....i.e. in the dark! I'd feel much better and more "in control" if it was during the day, so it wouldn't matter if the power went off. I am really glad Numpty is here :T ....as I don;t want to face this on my own.
Right - off to feed the piggies; try to "click and collect" some more camping gas lamps for tomorrow; and thence to bed.
Stay safe everyone - please do not underestimate mother nature - this really is a serious storm and it WILL claim lives. If you can avoid being out in it, please do so. Please also make sure your outbuildings/animals/pets are safe and secure .
Will be updating the thread over the holiday period. Positive vibes would be appreciated over the next 24-48 hours.

Well that was one scarey night! Crashed out at some point early this morning on the sofa after the worst of the winds had passed.
Mid-afternoon yesterday, we discovered that one of the flood doors leaks - it was letting in all the rain, . At the same time we were upgraded to flood warning so Numpty and I spent most of yesterday evening moving everything to higher ground and putting up the secondary flood defences in a howling gale....we got very wet!
Stream flooded at 11pm - and we have been marooned until 9am this morning. Although it surrounded the house, thankfully it didn't rise high enough to challenge the door thresholds, even after the squall line went through at 4am, so all we have is a wet utility room from where the rain has come in. Even the outbuilding Piggie Palace escaped flooding by a whisker!
Thankfully no wind damage here that I can see although trees down opposite and throughout the area.
Round 2 on the 27th followed by Round 3 on New Years eve...back later once I've woken up properly!
