By all means do the ironing if it helps you keep calm, but if it stresses you, don't bother - staying on an even keel and getting some rest are more important, even if you're just lying on top of your duvet in a tracksuit or whatever ... and stay hydrated too <checks teacup>

ETA - wind speed is just starting to build at Shoreham, apparently- 23 - 38mph there. I'm for a cup of tea and to bed, I hate doing that in a power cut. I'll read and just put the book down if the lights go off. Stay safe.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Following Met office guidelines:
1.I have tied Mr.B outside in the hope that he will stop the greenhouse from blowing over he was a bit narked at it, but i did point out he should do his bit..
2. Plenty of sandbags around his neck
3. Now what else can I do ?

Phew...what a night! Sadly 4 dead and one teenager missing presumed dead following the storm blasting through the south east
.
Did manage a couple of hours sleep this afternoon after the events of earlier this morning. Thankfully the rain came before the winds. My area had one of the highest rainfall figures - 45mm. The stream came to the top of its banks about 2am but luckily it didn;t burst. At approx 6am an almighty gust snapped off the huge weeping willow above my property at trunk level and it fell into the stream and across my fence. There is a big area of sky where the tree used to be, meaning the patio area is now much lighter and unbelievably the top-totty-built fence is still standing :T
I am now so pleased I put everything that moved in the garden into storage now as the thought of a wind-blown projectile spinning through my windows is leaving me cold.
Environment Agency were on the doorstep at 8am with chainsaws to unblock the stream and keep it flowing....just glad it didn't happen during the night when the stream was really swollen or the piggies might have needed their wellingtons.
So all safe and no damage to Wols Riverbank Residence apart from a bit of a mess from stray willow branches.

Fantastic news, Wol! Very glad to hear it
Stuff blowing around does seem to be one of the main dangers, doesn't it?
I was shattered too on the Monday - had a little lie down :rotfl: though I wasn't going to tell anyone! Between the effort, and the worry, once it had all gone through, a lie down made sense2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
