Stay safe in the storm, everyone. We are up in County Durham, on the very edges of it all, but there are still some strong gusts of wind at times and expect 60 to 80 mph overnight so not counting any chickens. Apart from the two resident ones, and they are safe in their run.One life - your life - live it!0

Just received a flood alert warning from the EA in preparation for the incoming St Jude storm tonight.
I guess it;s time to own up......despite actively and positively helping advising people on other forums as a weather guru .......I personally am BRICKING IT! I am SCARED STIFF.
Personally, I am having to deal with mitigating for both severe flood and wind damage combined... and I still haven;t got as far with my mitigating preparations tonight that i would have hoped that would mean i could sleep later.
Stay safe everyone - watch the MetOffice website regularly.... ie every hour.....as this incoming storm has certain weird features that means it could suddenly, at very short notice, "dump" on an unsuspecting part of the country>

Not surprising you are bricking it, Wol, when you consider what storms and floods have done to your life over the years. We can only prepare for the worst and hope for the best, in the sure knowledge that this, too, will pass. One life - your life - live it!0

Fingers crossed for you Wol xx
Following Met office guidelines:
1.I have tied Mr.B outside in the hope that he will stop the greenhouse from blowing over he was a bit narked at it, but i did point out he should do his bit..
2. Plenty of sandbags around his neck
3. Now what else can I do ?Bob x

:rotfl: Bob! Make sure the rope you've used is elastic - he may need to swim upwards if your river floods
And Wol, honey, do what you can, then stop. You've already been through the worst that can happen, and you know you survive it. You don't *want* to be there again, of course you don't, and I know adrenaline must be absolutely flooding through you, but you have bloody good flood defences, you'll do fine. I confess, I haven't weighted things down on the patio quite heavily enough... on the other hand, I *have* got my travel kettle and some teabags upstairs, so if the wind keeps me awake, I can have a cuppa without coming downstairsJust about to try to remember how to put my camping gaz stove together. Or maybe not.
This storm is weird, isn't it ... mind you, the main (very narrow) band of bad weather is still just south of the coast, from a live radar map I saw ... I just dont know. I'm going to stop borrowing trouble and have a snackyou take care of yourself. xxx you too, Bob, my mum's got some fierce weather up Lancashire way.

We have a canal nearby, but we are up hill from that so no danger of flooding. More worried about fences etc really. Hope your mum is ok KC.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Thanks Bob ... the coast there is very low lying, but her little bit doesn't seem to flood. In all seriousness, I'm glad she's not in a bungalow
I made her promise to put a pan on the stove and fill it with water, in case the water supply's contaminated, or a water main bursts or something ... dehydration at her age can be fatal, she couldn't cope with it.
Wol, hope you're doing okay.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thanks all
This is indeed a scarey event. It helps me to know you are all here in spirit!
Need to eat....and iron clothes...and clean piggies,,,,, before midnight storm hits.
Back later, power cuts permitting, as I don;t think i will be sleeping tonight.
